I don't know much about this GPU other than it is coming in my laptop tomorrow. The internet doesn't have much information on it either. I've been told it is very similar to the 230M but not quite as good. Which is odd since usually a higher number means better, but yes I know not always.
Thanks

Usually, it is the second number that counts. 320 is like 220. The 230 you had should be 330.
-
The first number is the generation, the second two numbers are the class. So, 20 < 30, even though it's the next generation. In theory. But Nvidia hasn't released anything new in years, so it's just a re-clocking and tweaking of the previous generation, so it all depends on the actual specs of the GPU (number of shaders, clocks, etc.) as compared to the previous generation.
-
when it comes to GPU's you look at the 2nd number for the higher model the 1st number change with ever new model that come out ,
so a GT 160 is going to be better then a GT 210 or a GT 320
and so on next year there will be GT 410 but that doesn't mean it's going to be better than a GT 330 -
Thanks to everyone for the replies. -
Do you think that it is a possible error? I haven't received the laptop yet, I purchased several weeks ago and it is due to arrive tomorrow. When customizing it from HP the 320 was the only option and in the product description it also says 320. But in the HP part store based on the product number for my laptop there isn't even an option to purchase a 320m, only the 230.
Yes I agree it is fairly unlikely but typos do happen from time to time. (Jay leno headlines??). That could also explain why nobody knows anything about the 320.
EDIT: I can't even find the 320 on NVIDIA's website. http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_m_series.html -
rumor is its a rebadged 9600m gt. It has 32 shaders just like the 9600m gt, but its unknown if it uses a smaller die or not. Odds are its just rebadge because the non i7 model used a 9600m gt.
-
Well I know there has been some going back and forth. Some people who bought dv7t quads got 230 and some got 330's.
I searched my product number to see which driver it wants me to install. The only graphics driver to come up is "NVIDIA GeForce GT 320M video driver". When reading the description of the driver says "This is a self-extracting compressed file that contains the Win7 driver forNVIDIA GeForce GT 230M video chips."
So something smells fishy here. It is possible there are two separate boards, but I guess they are close enough to use the same driver and that HP get's confused and uses them interchangably.
I'm just getting ancy, been waiting too long for this laptop to replace my 2.5 year old HP DV9620. When I get it tomorrow my first check is going to be what is installed. I really wouldn't be too surprised to find the 230.

according to Notebookcheck the GT320M is placed only in the HP dv6t and dv7t series so my guess is that you can use GPUZ to check the release date of your GPU and match it with the release date in: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-320M.25099.0.html
because the release date is the only available info about that GPU
OR
use GPUZ to see if the specs of ur GPU meets the GT230M profile:

Actually the GT230 is way better than the GT320 so I think it would be better if it was GT230M -
Thats what I hear and I'm hoping. Someone told me that they used to ship with the dv7t quad and the prebuilt machines still did but the customs didn't. That sounded dumb. (He also wasn't positive and just going off rumors).
It will be the first thing I check, laptop is on a fedex truck right now and will be here probably this afternoon. I will let all of you guys know what I find. -
Device Manager calls it the 320M.

Post the GPU-Z screenshot. Specs don't lie, names can.

Weird that you can only provide images via URL, but I guess that stops the forum operators from having to provide a general purpose file upload tool. Here's the GPU-Z shot from my dv6t GT 320M GPU. I, too, would like to find a newer driver, but can live with what I've got as needs must (I don't use the system for gaming, not even MS games ;-).

PS: Maybe we should compile a petition and gather signatures, then present it to HP with a "request for action." I do some consulting work for HP, and could probably find a way to get it in front of somebody who might actually *care.* -
Clocks look like a GT 230M, I'm sure 3DMark scores will reveal comparable results.
-
so anyone with a 320M have some screens of 3Dmark (or numbers at least) to try to see wich one its better
230M or 320M -

In other words.. this thing is pretty much a dud.
If you're only looking for assurance that this card is NOT a dud, wishmaster, you can look elsewhere because pretty much everyone has said what you obviously don't want to hear.. that this is 3-year old rebadged technology.
Can we move on now? -
what a disappointment... i would think Hp would use something better than GT230M instead they use something worse... well..
