    Hello,

    I`m buying a new laptop, and I have the possibility of choosing between 2 graphic cards: Nvidida Geforce G105M or Geforce 8400 Gs, but i dont really have much experience on this subject, thats why I´m asking here:

    Which card is better, are there many differencies between them?

    Thanks =)

    Both are anemic low end dedicated (by 2010 mobile gaming standards) cards capable of only playing older games (pre DX 9 and DX 9) fluently at great detail but if you expect to run current games (2009/10) at decent framerates and settings you could do better.

    According to notebookcheck.net, the 105M (which is a rebadged 65nm 9300M GS) delivers much better performance at a much lower thermal envelope than the previous gen and hotter running 80nm 8400M GS (which was part of the NVIDIA 8XXX line prone to thermal issues in laptops)..

    Go for the 105M.

    I really appreciate your fast answer.

    Just to make an Idea of how is the 105M... Will it support with a good performance BF2?

    Thanks once again

    Seeing that the game was released 5 years ago and has these following minimum requirements;

    - Minimum Specification:
    CPU: 1.7 Ghz
    RAM: 512 Mb
    Video Card: NVidia GeForce FX 5700, ATI Radeon 8500 or ATI Radeon 9500
    with 128 Mb of RAM

    There is no reason why the G105M should not be able to run it at good settings with a good framerate. You can max it out, no problem.

    yeah, you definitely won't be able to play GTAIV on that... It is also very demanding on your CPU. My friend's Studio XPS16 can barely play it.

    No its about 5 times worse, the g105m can run it all lowest settings 800x600 average 15-20 FPS depends on CPU, which is still very low and with that bad graphic details u can just play vice city

    Well... It comes the time to decide, as you can see, my budget isnt really high, just of 550€, thats why I´m buying this Notebook (Acer EX5635G).
    - Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 a 2.2 GHz
    - Memory RAM 4 GB DDRII
    - Hard disk of 320Gb
    - Nvidia GeForce G105M
    - Graphic memory 512 Mb

    Do you think that´s a right decision with this budget?
    Would you suggest any other brand or computer that fit in the budget of 550€?
    Thanks.

    its not desgined for gaming and especially intensive games like GTA IV... i would try looking for a better notebook with GT330M or ATI 5650 at least if u want to play GTA IV at decent res or details... G105M is a no go for gaming...

    I´ve heard that ATI isn´t really designed for notebooks , but for those big computers... Is it true?

    A better question would be...

    Here is my budget. This is what I want to do.

    Is there a laptop that fills these requirements?

    You never know, maybe there is an affordable laptop with a decent GPU you are unaware of.

    Good luck.

    Source please. Many times, an ATi card will run cooler and on less power than their Nvidia counterpart. We'd like to see source for this speculation.

    you might also want to do that and also fill up the FAQ on the what notebook to buy forum? They can help u there more on details...but as far as ATI cards go today , they're better than NVDIA and run cooler...

    2 years ago , when i was going to buy my laptop , i would have told u ATI is crap which it was but now , it beats NVDIA and i really regret buying NVDIA.. my laptop gets so hot that it is uncomfortable to game sometimes... especially on ur lap lol... has to mod a lot to lower temps.. i'm quite sure u won't have this problem if u get an ATI card.
