Nvidia Geforce 197.45 notebook drivers released (MS Update Catalog)

I spotted the 197.45 notebook drivers in the MS update catalog. Open the link below with IE.
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx (Update: Notebook GPU's are pulled off currently. Use the direct download links)

Plug in your GPU in the search box and download the driver. The drivers come with "NV_WHQL.inf" which supports almost all existing notebook GPU's with Windows 7, Vista and XP (32/ 64 bit).

Note: Delete the "nv_disp.inf" file (desktop driver inf) in the driver package before running the setup.exe.

The last MS drivers were awesome. ie. 186.82. People should give this a try.

 

I have been using the Desktop version of these for a while but just installed these ones instead now. Performance is great, been playing GTA IV patched to version 6, TLAD DLC and Prototype. Arkham Asylum also performed excellently and no issues downclocking either. It looks like the 197.xx Drivers have finally reached a good point (for me anyway).

 

This drivers help fight the lag the new BC2 patch introduces.

 

Has anyone with the Asus G60vx models tried this one? And is it better than the 186.82 driver version that everyone has been recommending?

That's odd considering it's listed as a supported GPU for the update.

Unfortunately, the v197.45 graphics drivers that NVIDIA provide do not have native notebook GPU support with WHQL certification.

NV_WHQL.inf always contains universal GPU support from GeForce 6 onwards (and Quadro equivalents).

Your GTX 260M is supported. Delete the "nv_disp.inf" file (desktop driver inf) in the driver pack before running the setup.exe.

Thanks forge, im using those on my desktop gtx285 and work great, one of the reasons im interested to use them on my 260m.

The 197.16 didnt downclock for me in 2d/idle, like most of the nvidia oficial releases, while the last nvidia MS drivers that i tried 186.82 work great, still the drivers that im using today. So im very hype atm to give these MS drivers a try.

Try powermizer switch before writing off the drivers. I've had a couple that didn't downclock properly until I hit the switch.

 

Yea i seen it, but still... i woulda have bother with it if they gave better scores or imagequality, and 197.16 were a lot like 186.81 for me, worst benchmark scores and dont downclock so no keepers for me, the 186.82 still highest scoring drivers that downclock on their own, im hoping this one does as well, already dl just cleaning the laptop for install, ill post results in a bit.

This drivers seems similar to 197.25, they downclock fine in 2d/idle on the G51 260m, no need for powermizer switch. Here is gpuz of them.



But they do run hotter than 186.82, i ran 2 furmark benchmarks back to back (probably 20mins difference but same conditions aside from drivers change), here the pics, on the left 186.82 and right 197.45.



3dmark06 about the same score, im gonna continue testing them in actual games to see if i keep them or not.

All is workign fine on my Sony VAIO F (330M) but not the keyboard shortcut (FN + F5/F6) for brightness.

The fn keys work fine in my FZ with 8400M GT. Does the brightness OSD show up? You need to compare the working inf with this MS update inf and make the necessary change for the brightness control to work.

 

Can I overclock with these on win7 x64 for my 8600m gt? I'm going nuts trying to find a drive that allows me to overclock

Yes, it's WHQL certified. You can install the latest Phsyx if you want.

 

As soon as you use a modified .inf, the WHQL digital signature becomes void hence the non certified warning.

Because the nv_disp.inf contains the list of GPU supported by the drivers.

Mine didn't want to install so I just replaced it with a modified inf from laptopvideo2go.

 

That .inf is for the desktop driver set. Delete it and unpack the 'additional infs' folder. Then place the whql .inf in the driver package. This one contains the .inf supporting mobile GPU's.

 

Because "nv_disp.inf" is a desktop GPU inf, and if you don't delete it, the installer will exit saying "no compatible hardware found". What you need is the "NV_WHQL.inf", which is the notebook inf.

 

They seem okay. I haven't really gamed on them yet, but things don't look bad at all.

 

I have reinstalled the OSD shorcut software but it has no effect. The osd is showing but does not seem to control anything

After deleting the NV_Disp.inf, I didn't use the 'additional infs' folder and it still installed and worked perfectly fine. The missing DirectCompute feature has also come back too, according to GPU-Z.

Have you guys checked what features are available after installation in GPU-Z to make sure it installed correctly?

Sometimes I find Physx needs to be reinstalled.

 

Thanks for the heads up...was just following steps listed at LV2Go, which worked fine for me.

Verified the direct compute, not that I noticed it missing before. Physx latest version was still installed after update to these drivers.

I really like this driver a lot.

 

I forgot that I downloaded mine from Microsoft which is probably why I didn't have to do some of those steps as long as I had a supported GPU. I agree, these Drivers are great, perform really well, brightness controls are fine and they downclock. My Idle GPU temps are 41-42C although I have a low ambient of 23C.

 

installed fine. still didn't try any games. however there is something i noticed. the drivers i used before didn't include opencl support. with these newest drivers, gpuz shows a check on opencl. anyone noticed this?

i get stuttering in sc2 with these, fps drops to 0 for a split second every once and a while

 

There is support for the GeForce GT 320M since it is in the INF. I have a GT 230M, and it's working just fine.

Also, a clarification: the 197.45 MSU packages only include a graphics driver and do not include the HDMI audio driver or PhysX software; you'll have to use the 197.44 or 197.45 official NVIDIA packages to get these.
