    Nvidia Geforce Driver 417.58 Hotfix


    This is GeForce HotFix driver version 417.58 that addresses the following:

    • Black screen when resuming from monitor sleep on some DisplayPort monitors
    • Windows 7: FPS drop when G-sync is used with V-sync in games
    • Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Fixes occasional application crash in DirectX 12 mode
    • Fixes black screen on BenQ XL2730 monitor using 144Hz refresh rate
    • Fixes lockup when resuming from sleep on MSI GT83 notebook

    A bunch of people's GT83VR's have already DIED after going to sleep and never waking up and getting black screens permanently.
    Even on this forum. Even more on official MSI forums.

    In fact i'm going to go destroy my BGAbook right now with the 417.35 previous driver.
    Going to try to put my *GT73* to sleep and see if it never wakes up ever again.

    Microsoft's emergency Internet Explorer patch renders some Lenovo laptops unbootable

    A few days ago, Microsoft issued an emergency patch for Internet Explorer to fix a zero-day vulnerability in the web browser.

    The problem affects versions of Internet Explorer from 9 to 11 across multiple versions of Windows, but it seems that the patch has been causing problems for many people. Specifically, people with some Lenovo laptops have found that after installing the KB4467691 patch they are unable to start Windows.

    Ok here is what they do on every driver :) I got the list from there dead website http://tweakforce.com by using http://web.archive.org/ ;)
    XG drivers are tweaked to improve image quality and stability while performance may increase or decrease slightly depending on your system specs. A few XG registry tweaks include mods to the following:

    Paletted Textures In Video Memory
    Render Quality Flags
    Target Flush Count
    Texture Clamp Behavior
    Texture LOD Bias
    Use Cached PCI Mappings
    Texture Memory Space
    Downloaded Memory Space
    Texture Precache
    UMA Fast Frame Buffering
    Main 3D rendering
    Triple Buffering
    Any more information you want to know.. ask them.. :)
    Here's what I observed comparing between official ones vs XG...
    -Less microstutters
    -Higher OC Potential (Gives me additional 50 ~ 90 MHz more OC) with the same overvolt (I use +75mv) going higher voltage gives me black screen
    -Higher FPS [Not significant-(YMMV)] (due to less stuttering I guess you feel that you are playing at higher frame rate :D)
    -Less latency per a frame (Means smoothie gameplay) ;)

    It's a reason you should be careful with rushed out emergency patches/drivers. Not all systems eating everything being thrown out of fixes screw up.

    So I found my BGAbook didn't blow up when I put it to sleep with 417.35. I wonder why GT83VR's were dying? I mean how could a driver DESTROY a laptop videocard just by putting it to sleep and it not waking and then it not posting anymore? Destroying the laptop panel EDID? They were clearing the CMOS and they saw the backlight 'flash' on but no MSI logo during the boot loops. Just an "on" backlight.

    How is that possible?

    Everything is possible. You already forgot all black screens on several notebooks after Win 10 was released? A nice nasty combo of EVGA Precision, NVIDIA and Winflaw X.

    Fyi. Not many Jokebooks use 18.3 inches panel as MSI. The more special, the bigger is the chance to Screw up.

    I uninstalled the update and reinstalled it which fixed the issue. I also ran Dism++ to clear tons of WinSxs temp files.

    Is it recommended to update when your older 417.35 WHQL works just fine?
    I got hold of fiddler app to store downloaded UWP app packages which will save time upon reinstalling the video drivers.
    Do you recommend the hybrid DCH driver?

    Yep, still hybrid. Custom refresh rates works fine unlike win32 versions, fewer resources.
    There are other ways to download UWP packages, but with NVCPL it will fail due to a specific .cab...

    I'm testing Kaspersky free version and wanted to see how 3rd party AV performs after I ditched them for Microsoft for the last 5-7 years.
    WD says file is clean, KFA says its a trojan but I installed it and it gave a warning no DCH driver found. I forgot to install the DCH driver.

    DCH drivers won't install on my 16L13, but they did on the Blade 15 that I returned. Wonder if it's because the former is running the Ultra Male de-bloated Windows 10 while the latter was a standard OS implementation.

    Not a big deal as long as NVIDIA continues to support the older method, but who knows how long that will last?
