I have a Dell Vostro 3500 (in sig) with Nvidia 310M Hybrid Graphics. What that means if I'm in power saver mode Intel graphics kicks in.
I was baffled and couldn't figure out how I got Intel graphics especially when on battery power, even the icon in the control panel would switch out, but finally figured out I had Hybrid graphics or two available graphic chips.
Anyway, I starting setting the power option to high performance to keep the Nvidia chip working when I noticed extreme temps to the point where the laptop shut down. At that point, I took off any back panels and blew out any dust (not much), uninstalled most programs I wasn't using regularly, stopped start ups and services and anything I could think of to lower the temperature to no avail.
Recently, Iinally I gave up and set it to power saver even when it's plugged in. Normal operating temperatures in this mode are 50* C. With the Nvidia card operating the temps reach 70*C- 95*C which has me sweating bullets in fear of complete failure.
Is there anything I can do so the Nvidia chip operates under normal temperatures?

If you are out of warranty then taking the machine apart, giving it a good clean (ofc being careful) and re-pasting the chips using a high quality thermal compound will certainly help bring those down.

Yup, just out of warranty (only got 1 yr.) I'll take a look at the service manual to see how easy it is to get to the chip.
Thanks.
