I've just spent hte last 5.5 hours attempting to find an Nvidia driver for the 8600M GT DDR3 that is both
    A) Newer than 11th November, 2008 (176.44)
    B) Has Powermiser working for both battery and AC

I'm currently on 186.42, and while when using my external monitor via HDMI at 1680x1050 it downclocks to full 2D performance levels but as soon as I unplug and switch to my laptop's internal display (1920x1200) it goes up to low-performance 3D and stays there until the screen decides to switch off. No matter which power setting I use, whether it's High Performance, Power Saver,or Balanced, I've no luck at getting it to drop down to the low performance 2D clocks. Normally I wouldn't make too big a deal of this and learn to live with the irony of a power saving feature only working on mains power, but I've several lecture classes this year in excess of 2.5 hours, and I need every ounce of power I can get.

Any advice that leads toward a better driver would be greatly appreciated.
