Same, I want to see some game and temp benchmarks comparing 179.48, 179.28 and DoX's latest 184 drivers

Only then will I decide which one to go with :D
    [Using 179.28 ATM]

    It is safe yes.
Many people are using nVidia's 179.28 drivers just fine [including me], and a lot of people do not know that those are also BETA

If you are worried, don't install them though, however there is no ETA from nVidia on when non-beta drivers will be released
    Hope this helps

    Wondering the same thing.
And for beta drivers, having driver-level OC'ing and WHQL certification is NEVER a bad thing.
Good to see the 7 Series included in this release (and a few of the 100 Series, too!).

I don't see any great difference, if at all. Temps are 6-8 c hotter than my current driver. I was using 179.32 HP driver (slightly better performance than .28 and .48, particularly more vivid colors, slight FPS increase) on my HP HDX 8800gts, and reverted back to this driver due to the temp increase on the .48.

I have installed on my Sony Vaio FZ through laptopvideo2go.com. It seems to be ok, I have briefly used with COD4 and the performance was slightly better than that of 179.28.

I was able to install this driver with my own modded inf. Sadly the WEI score dropped from 5.9 to 5.1 for Aero.

What is your's? (if you have an FZ) I was using 167.60 driver (from Sony FTP) before. Also the WEI for gaming increased from 5.3 to 5.4. I know that the WEI is totally useless since it changes scores based on drivers.

All I did was to include the subsys ID of my FZ's 8400M GT in the inf file of the official nvivia 179.48 driver to make it install in the FZ.

This seems to have broken EVO (a program I use for video conferencing). Maybe it is because I didn't uninstall the 179.28 driver first? Do you guys do anything special before installing the official drivers?

Anyone upgrading directly from 179.28 can just install right over top of it. No need to clean when installing drivers from the same series.

Like Kevin_Jack2.0 says, it's only really necessary to 'uninstall, Driver Sweeper, install' with drivers from a different series/generation (example: going from 179.XX to 185.XX).

However, saying this, I always use the driver sweeper method, and haven't run into any problems.

I suspect my problem was that I had installed 167.59 on top of 156.xx, then 179.28 on top of that and finally 179.48 on top of everything without ever cleaning or uninstalling so at some point something went wrong.

Anyway, I uninstalled, cleaned and reinstalled so now 179.48 appears to work fine. I checked the temperatures (using Mass Effect and web browsing as load and idle) and they're the same as with 179.28 and similar to 167.59. I suspect these new drivers are almost exclusively for GeForce 7 support.

Yeah it's good to clean out all of that confusion. It looks like this driver just added support for more cards. I see 9400M, GeForce GT 130M, GeForce G 110M, and GeForce G 105M.

i notice on a fl92 with 8600gt this series shortens the battery life. it for sure drains a good amount faster than with the older drivers (176 series) otherwise these are great

Can you quantify that? I have not yet tried using the battery with 179.48, but I've done it with 179.28 and I did not notice a difference relative to 167.59. My JFL92 lasts 3-4 hours either way.

Yes it is. I just checked with dxdiag.

The official Nvidia drivers aren't that different from the custom ones at lv2go. For example, at the moment, neither of them is very good at supporting sleep for a wide variety of laptops. However, they are WHQL certified and the people who make them have more direct access to the hardware.

Because it's rather difficult to call something a finished product when something as common as sleep results in a BSOD 100% of the time.

Hey all, i'm on my factory 176.22 forceware driver for my HDX16. is there a better drive that came after that? any point in me updating? I dont like beta drivers though, thats all they seem to have on their site.

How is 176.22? was it a good driver? should i just keep it?

thanks guys, i havent kept up with this stuff in ages
