No clue - 179.28 said it was "Beta" too, but it was also WHQL upon install.

Your way outdated, and I doubt anyone can tell you anything about a 176 driver. You'll surely notice performance increases with these new mobile drivers. Give it a shot.

I have the Toshiba x305 q701 with single 9700mgts and Toshiba just came out with the 176.89 drivers which I have installed 2 weeks ago, now it gives me 200+ points more than the Nvidia 179.28 in 3dm6.

I was very happy with 179.28 since that driver gave me a 200 pt boost from Dox's custom driver which scored me the highest from any laptopvid2go driver.

So I'm kinda happy with 176.89 since it is from the OEM, but I just downloaded 179.48 thinking I might give it a test run but I kinda think I won't see a higher benchmark score on 3dm6 since I'm getting 7700 pts with the 176.89 drivers, and that's stock clocks.

I had installed 179.48 in my Sony Vaio FZ by tweaking the official inf to make it install in my laptop. I have no issues so far.

Hmmm... According to the documentation, Nvidia only lists the following fixes:
Also seems to have added more cards to the support list (as others have mentioned)

the lower battery life seem to have only affected the compal fl92 with 8600gt in it. the msi's i have seem to have normal battery life. i even had a brand new battery here i tried in the compal with about the same results so it has to be something with that notebook or gpu. im going to go through the settings to see what i can figure out

wow! These are the fastest drivers I've installed yet. I now score 7965 in 3dmark6. That's almost 800 points more from when I got my X305 q701 last year with stock drivers it was scoring about 7200. It's doing wonders to keep my frame rate up to date with modern games.

I have bugs in GTA IV using these drivers. The infamous texture problem returns when I use these.

Since my last post, I have used the battery of my Compal JFL92 a couple of times more with these drivers. In 1.5 hours, it goes down from fully charged to roughly 60% so I would estimate the total lifetime to be 3-4 hours, just as it was with previous drivers. I suspect it is something specific to your FL92 rather than all FL92s.

I'm just wondering what factor in the drivers can affect battery life, I mean what would cause your battery to run out faster when you upgrade

I don't know. It's theoretically possible that they increase the amount of power the GPU uses when idle, but I don't think this is the case with 179.48 and it would be very strange if it did it for one 8600M GT and not others.

Probably not, otherwise more people would have been complaining

    These are good drivers.
But I have two problems with them and that´s why I don´t use them.
First, waking up from sleep mode doesn´t work when the battery is on and it´s plugged in AC power but that happens with DOX´s too.
Second, it appears that the powermizer doesn´t work as according to gpu-z the clocks are always in 3D mode, in my case at 400mhz. Maybe that´s why folks are complaining about battery life with this drivers as the clocks are at their fullest draining more power.

I just use that little registry tool that used to come with DOX's drivers to turn powermizer on.

I just completed an install of Vista Ultimate 64. I ran into one issue so far with the 179.48 release (at first I thought it was an OS issue and ended up doing 2 additional installs of the OS - LOL) - .mpg and .avi files WILL NOT play while my system is in SLI mode. Disabling SLI allows the two file types to play without issue. Here is what I found:

Attempting to play a .mpg or .avi file will cause MediaPlayer (both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions) on Vista Ultimate 64-bit to hang. The app hang causes explorer.exe to stop responding. Attempting to select a .mpg file for playback in Windows DreamScene results in DreamScene hanging and the same behavior as before with explorer.exe.

Disabling SLI and running on a single 8800M fixes this issue and the files playback normally.

I have yet to test DVD playback in SLI mode but that is on my list. I have sent the issue to NVIDIA via their feedback link on the notebook driver download page.

I encourage everyone to report errors (and successes) via this link. Hopefully the feedback will keep them on the dev path.

Have any other users with SLI (8800M GTX) encountered this issue?

Other than that, the driver is very stable and temps are nice and low - even with SLI enabled. Also, I do not see the issue Giga.Ultra reported above. PowerMizer is working as expected in non-SLI mode. GPUs downclock automatically based on load.

Drivers work great for me. Plays call of duty 4 fine...

Though not really a big difference over the previous drivers. I actually can't tell when it comes to gaming performance.

Question: Does the drivers affect Core GPU Temperature at all? Last time I checked Core temperature of my GPU it never reached above 71 degrees now it reaches 76 degrees. I'm wondering if the Drivers have that affect on temperature?

    Please let me know thanks
    Jimmy

I have the Aluminum Macbook with the 9400M, and these drivers are great! No lags, texture is good, and framrates are about 2-5 more. I had Apple Bootcamp drivers installed at first, then 179.28, and now 179.48, and I can tell a slight difference between .28 and .48. I would download them even if they are beta.. ;)
