which card is superior?
lenovo T61p's Nvidia Quadro FX 570M or dell XPS m1530's Nvidia 8600M GT (DDR3)
-
They're the same card.
-
Optimized by default for different applications I should add.
-
wow fast reply
thanks guys im happy to hear that ther the same card, now im definatly getting the XPS m1530 -
If you are primarily going to game get the XPS m1530. If you are going to do mainly CAD work get the FX 570M.
Tim -
Although you can download drivers that would make the FX 570M act like an 8600M GT DDR3.

Quadro and GeForce cards are not the same by a long shot.. lol
Quadro are more OpenGL optimized, for handling programs such as Maya, Cinema 4D, 3Ds Max, etc. Something GeForce cards tend to struggle handling because of the stripped down OpenGL feature list. Quadro are workstation cards.
GeForce are consumer cards that do a little of everything but are mostly intended for gaming.
They may appear to be the same but are designed for completely different tasks.
The desktops at work have dual Quadro 4500's in SLI and they struggle to handle games like Doom3 when we we're testing them out. Which is pathetic considering they cost $5000 each. -
That is insane by what i have checked the 4500 FX equals at least a 8800GTS and doom is running with over 100FPS at ultra quality(SXGA) on it regardless of optimizations, i assume than that the cards have been tweaked alot to strain down their performance so much -
Well if you install the Geforce drivers instead of the Quadro drivers you do see a big performance increase. I am able to get about 4900-5000 in 3DMark 06 with Geforce drivers...pretty nice.
And I can play CoD4 at medium-high settings with 30-40FPS with the Nvidia Quadro FX 570M. That is with the Geforce drivers of course.

As far as the Doom example goes, isn't Doom 3 an OpenGL game? Wouldn't it perform better on an OpenGL optimized card? -
Here are a couple of questions: 1. What quadro card is the 8600gt ddr2 equivalent to? 2. Could I run this said geforce 8600 gt with the appropriate quadro driver and get a performance increase using CAD programs such as solidworks?
-
Hi there, I got a Quadro FX570m in my T61p. It's pretty good when running 3Ds Max and Auto CAD for a laptop, but when I'm trying to play a big 3d game, the out come wasn't always that good. My friend has a desktop level 8600gt, 2gb mem, a core 2 duo 2.0GHz and XP Pro, he can run world in conflict at 38fps, mine only at 17-19fps. He can also play Counter-Strike: Source without any problem, but my will pop out when initializing the game data (Vista shows that hl.exe has stopped working, caused by vguimatsurface.dll. Anyone knows why?)

Is it true the FX 570M (128MB) which is in the 14.1" 4:3 T61p somewhat different than the FX 570m (256MB) found in the 15.4" T61p?
I mean aside from the obvious memory difference, is the 128MB version nerfed in any way? I read somewhere that it's no different in terms of performance than the Quadro NVS 140m! Is this true? -
Same but not the same.
In the NV10-NV40 era, Quadro and GeForce GPUs came from the same fab. However, there are bonding options that permanently determine the optimization for 3d workstations (quadro) or gaming (GeForce) for a given chip. You cannot simply update a graphics card BIOS to get a GeForce to run CAD programs like a Quadro, or a Quadro to run games like a GeForce.
Although I left NVIDIA before NV40 hit the streets, I'm of the belief that the Quadro/GeForce differences are no longer hardware-determined for GeForce 6x00 and after. The progammability of that gpu family is astounding compared to its predecessors. Additionally, in 2004 one expert on NVNEWS forum had a convincing demonstration of changing a GeForce 6x00 to Quadro and back.
YMMV. -
Test#3
Drivers: 174.16 with the GeForce 8600m/tweak
Will keep this recipe for awhile.
Next 3DMark2006 Benchmark will be ran after each of the following upgrades:
1. 2x2GB of RAM. (Havn't decided on what RAM to buy).
2. Seagate 7200.2, 200GB, 16mb Cache (ordered)
3DMark06 benchmark scores aside the FX 570m's ability to play games is decent for a notebook IMO.
Below is a thread with T61p/FX 570m game screen shots below:

ive found that the geforce driver isnt that much faster, but you can overclock it really high. i doubled my fps from 27 to 60 on hl2:lost coast(full settings with 4xAA) when i overclocked. i overclocked it from 475mhz to 650mhz for the core, and 702mhz to 900mhz for the mem. i can even play crysis now, and unreal tournament 3 with post-processing on insane
-
Seems like most information found online is stating that the 570m is slightly better than the 8600m with DDR3.
New benchmark score and system specs in sig. -
in your 570m screenshot thread....what is GeForce 9600GT overdrive FX 570m code mod
-
That is when I ran the new 9600GT drivers.
I have been using the 174.31 drivers for about 3 weeks with no gaming problems. I'm working on finishing Bioshock and Portal. I have a few other games from the Orange Box going and I just started to play Prey. All the games are running great.
I have played the Crysis Demo and the COD4 Demo with satisfactory results.
These GPU in the 8600m GT is the same GPU that is in the FX 570m. The only difference might be in the design of the Motherboard, power supply, quality of ddr3 ram and cooling system.
In the case of the T61p the GPU performs very well.
If you look at this site you can see they are almost the same exact GPU.

I suspect the ddr3 RAM in the T61p and cooling system to be of very high quality because of the high benchmark scores on 3DMark06 I have been able to acheive.
I have seen 1 3DMARK06 score just under mine with a 8600m GT on a Dell XPS m1530. It's the only 8600m GT GPU that I have seen score just over a 6000.

So, is there any way of using the Quadro FX570m drivers on the GeForce 8600m GT to enable the professional features? If so can anyone explain how? Much appreciated!
-
Contrary to what other people have said in this thread, I have not noticed any differences when gaming on a quadro or geforce. I have had 2 laptops with a quadro gpu. One was similar to a 8600m GT, the other one to a 8700m GT. They performed similar to the geforce's both in 3DMark06 as well as in actual games, even just using quadro drivers.
I suspect that while desktop Quadro GPU's do indeed differ significantly from the mainstream geforces, laptop quadro's are tweaked versions of existing cards. -

Guys, where can I get the DDR3 8600m GT BIOS? techpowerup only has the DDR2.... Any help or a PM would be appreciated!
-
oookay..i have a question.
I have the nvidia quadro FX 570M card on my laptop (HP 8510w).
When i tryed to run HL2 and CSS the computer freezes. I didnt install any geforce drivers on it.
So i have a question, which drivers must i install for optimal gaming performance?..a link to download would be very nice...
ty for your help! -
