Hi
I need a new laptop for CAD work and 20% game play.
The Quadro FX2500M looks nice but it's 100w power consumption puts it out of contention.
The 256Mb Quadro FX1500M (45w) and FireGl V5200 (?w) both seem to fit the bill but which GPU is faster?![]()
Any thoughts?

The FireGL V5200 is based on ATi M56 (RV350) chip, like Radeon X1600. The FX1500M and FX2500M are based on nVidia G71 chip, which is used in their most powerful cards up to date, the GeForce 7900 series. If performance is somehow comparable, the FX1500M should blow the V5200 out of the water. However, the power consumption parameters make me a bit skeptical - maybe to achieve low power consumption, the FX1500M suffers from major underclocking or even disabled pipes, which isn't good for performance.

I tought that G71 chip was 7600? Or am I wrong? If so excuse me.

7600 is G73.

Do you know what the power consumption in watt's is for the V5200? ........ Thinking battery life.
So you believe that the FX1500M is a reduced power "kneecapped" version of the FX2500M. I would go with the FX2500M if it wasnt for the power consumption ......... the batterys wont last five minutes, or will they with all the clever power saving systems in the chip?
Which chip set would you buy if battery life was a real factor?
Have you seen any tests which compare these GPU's for both power consumption and battery life?
Thanks again

Nvidia Quadro FX1500M or ATI FireGl V5200
