So Nvidia are adding some Sony cards and not others.

I had to use a patch info on v197.16 that i downloaded from Nvidia the other day , but v257.21 installed fine, strange

I have the instructions in my clean install guide to install the newest driver for 8400M GT. Don't even expect support from Nvidia.

This driver is identical to 257.15 beta, except the WHQL certificate.

Why such the big change in number from 197.16?

The big change in version number is similar to how NVIDIA had jumped the 97.xx/100.xx drivers to 158.xx. I believe certain games back in the day could not recognize 100.xx drivers due to the fact that the version numbers are now five digits (and would consider the version as 00.xx as in the four digit scheme).

NVIDIA had changed to the 6.14.1x.xxxx (Windows XP) and 8.1x.1x.xxxx (Windows Vista / 7) numbering schemes, but I guess they are still jumping the numbers to prevent incompatibilities and to continue the trend.

good reports so far on the clevo thread.

i know these dont mean much but:
    3dmark6 with 186.81 > 9517 (only got a 9800GT so dont laugh)
    3dmark06 with 257.21 > 9525

    vantage
    186.81 > P4276
    257.21 > P5122 wow what a jump

the option to turn physx on/off has gone and now theres a dropdown box with auto select, graphics card or cpu

the old driver i mentioned was good coz its fast, it gives me higher FPS than any other recent driver from nvidia but this new one its almost the same FPS maybe a lil bit slower just a lil but the graphics are much realistic and beautiful than the old one..

It's like the old one was reducing the quality of graphics to accelerate the game but the new one is kinda balanced lost few FPS for much better graphics.

    thanks for the info.
i was on 186.81 myself for the longest time.
ive moved on to 197.16 and the way you describe this driver sounds a lot like 197.16.

I don't like this new driver.

It got problems with downclocking on my 9300m gs =/ When the system is in idle, it doesen't downclock itself. Actually really annoying.

But I got better performance in 1080p HD videos in Internet Explorer :)

THESE DRIVERS ARE HEAVEN SENT ON TOSHIBA'S X305 Q701!!!! I can now max out my graphics on games that would bog down my system before. I get awesome frames per second with full graphics settings. It also keeps the GPU temps lower and gaming on battery does not compromise framerate. I love this driver! It extended the life of my notebook with a 9700m gts video card. Nvidia please keep these new ones coming!

Oh and for those that don't know Adobe flash player 10.1 is out too! Both these new releases has given new life to my 2 year old notebook! 8)

Well i tried all drivers still except 258.49, 197.45/198.01/198.05 all seem within 100 points on 3dmark06 so no significant difference, but 257.21 was 300 points lower, temps seems about the same on furmark. On the downside 257.21, as all official nvidia drivers, don't downclock on their own under vista on the picky Asus G51 GTX260m.... i guess ill have to wait for another MS update version.

Here are some results for this and two other drivers that I have tested over the past day. All tests are with a 9800m GTS @ 720/1825/915 (core/shader/clock). The results are the average of two 3dMark06 benchmarks, which I made sure to run under the exact same conditions.

    195.62: 8868
    197.16: 9132
    257.21: 9099
    258.49: 9127

(258.49 is the new nvidia quadro desktop driver with a modded .inf from laptopvideo2go).

Edit: Tested the 195.62 based on Sean's advice.

Knock on wood, but I think that 257.21 finally fixed the popping and crackling audio I was experiencing under 197.16.

Go into nvidia control panel then under "display" click "adjust desktop size and position." Use nvidia scaling and the bars will go away.

This driver, as all the official nvidia released, don't downclock on 2d/idle on asus gtx260 cards on their own, if you like the drivers, then search for powermizer switch here in NBR, else use any of the ms update drivers, latest on my sig, they downclock fine on their own on asus cards.
