Either I downloaded the wrong ones or the 178.13 is just for desktops because there is no mention in the .inf of a Geforce 9600M GS and therefore I couldn't install the drivers via the setup program...

Hmm thought so. I installed them via the have disk method. My 9600M GS is now recognised as a 9600 GS. :D

Seems to be working ok so far...

Isn't 178 supposed to be the next 'Big Bang' in Nvidia drivers?

Can I install these in my Samsung Q310 with GeForce 9200?

With a LaptopVideo2Go modded .inf of course.

Also, should I include "Enable Samsung SXGA+ to properly view 1400x1050."?

    Thanks

Will these work with the 9700m gts without dropping frames per second running on just battery power? Right now I have the Toshiba x305 with stock drivers and can game on battery without losing any frames per second on my games and I'm afraid if I change drivers that weren't specifically designed for this card or laptop I would compromise my performance running on just battery power.

These drivers look really good. I've seen more than a few benchmarks with Crysis and Crysis: Warhead getting a minimum that's 10fps higher, which will really make the game a lot more playable, though average stays around the same.

    Increase of 5% in 3DMark06

Increase of 10%+ in Company of Heroes Performance test with a SS of settings attached. (From 35.7 to 40FPS Average at 1680x1050)

    I like these drivers a lot :)

Hmm... I have always had this question: What changes with new driver releases?
I mean, I know that there is probably some core code optimization that occurs between the first drivers releases and later releases, but I would think that only so many versions of drivers would be needed to optimize the code and fine tune it. There are probably also some custom game settings per game on how to draw them properly, but I would think that these would not be enough to justify completely reinstalling drivers (Instead, why not just update the game list?).

i get about 3 frames more in crysis warhead going from 177.92 to 178.13 on my gtx 280, in the crysis 1 benchmark, i get a better minimum frame average. Keep in mind i use dx9 because i like more fluid gameplay, also i have vsync on by accident, which is why my max is always 59 frames

    Crysis, DX9, 1920x1200, veryhigh/high, 0/AA, 0/AF

    177.92
    max---59
    AVG---47.4 fps
    min---32.8

    178.13
    max---59
    AVG---51.7
    min---36.1

Anyone test how this one works on battery yet? I've got 177.83 right now and it forces 2D speeds on battery - hence my somewhat crazy 2D overclock. I doubt I'll stay with 177.83, but haven't decided whether to go 174.93 (or w/e the latest 174 is), 178, or 174.31 official Dell.

    Better than Sony!

This effed up my gaming on battery. It was giving me constant 30+ fps plugged in then I unplugged it and watch the fps drop to 8 fps while playing cod4 multiplayer. So then I tried to change back to the official Toshiba 175.90 drivers that came with the notebook, the ones that I could game with on battery alone with it running at high 30+ fps without it downclocking unplugged, but now it drops to 8 fps also. WTH! NOOOOOO! What went wrong? can someone please tell me how to get my notebook back to how it was, being able to game on just battery with plugged in performance. I'm so sick right now.

Its the powermizer setting, it basically downclocks ur GPU on battery, search the forums, there r methods given on how to switch powermizer off.

Also guys, installing PHYSX i get better FPS in 3dmark06 and also in game.

Well i did a system restore and now it's back to normal where I can game on battery without losing fps. Anyway I did look up the powermizer thread and I can't find the perflevelsrc on the Stock 175.90 drivers, I even used the ctrl+f to try and find it but nothing. I didn't look in the registry when I had 178.13 installed and I don't even have the guts to install another driver just because I don't know what it changed in the registry to have it do that and I don't what to risk losing not being able to game without being next to an outlet. Anyone own a X305 that knows of a compatible driver for the 9700m gts that won't degrade performance on battery power please let me know.

Ok I am attaching a GUI made by someone on these forums which helps u turn powermizer on or off. Hope this helps, try it with ur current drivers and if it works, try with 178.13.

That solved it! :D I now get regular 3D performance on battery with 177.83; I'll try 178.13 and report back on that within a few days.

It will reduce battery life if you use 3D applications while on battery, but it should have no affect on performance while you are on AC power.

You can reenable PowerMizer with it too, to regain the 3D battery life, but that requires a reboot.

Hasham I read that thread and wanted to try it but after experiencing what happened and losing my ability to game on battery I'm so traumatized now I don't want any changes happening to the registry that I'm not aware of and that I can't reverse manually. On my X205 I got so experienced with changing video drivers I didn't care if I ran into a prob, but then again with the x205 I had to be plugged in to get the full effect in my games. This x305, it's so nice to have 60 fps unplugged until the battery dies. Hopefully the 9700m gts gets more support and better drivers made specifically for it..........Man it sucks being confined to one driver though, and the 178.13 did enhance my performance. Maybe when I get desperate I have that option. Thanks

Ok I'm seriously thinking about using this. Apollo, what kinda computer you using? And can you change the powermizer settings manually without the program? I mean is there a "perflevelsrc" located in your registery? Cause I don't see one in mine. thanks

Well jacob, u can give this powermizer GUI a shot, wat this GUI does is it tweaks ur registry to enable and disable powermizer.
IF things dont work out, u can always do a system restore. Create a restore point b4 u use the powermizer GUI. Hope this helps.
This gui has worked f9 for me and also for all other people on the forums, so there is no doubt it shdnt work for u.

Well u need to replace tht modded inf file with the original inf file in the extracted folder of ur drivers.

Whn u download the drivers from laptopvideo, they r 7zipped, so whn u unzip thm, it creates a folder 178.13, just copy paste the modded inf in this folder and whn asked to replace say yes.

Thn u can install thm easily, hope tht helps.

Got some time to tweak and tested it with 178.13 - and it works! Upon installing 178.13 it turns PowerMizer back on, but after a reboot with the program it can be turned off.

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 1520 with the 8600M GT DDR2. nVIDIA's control panel has a PowerMizer section, but that only affects AC powermizer, not battery. I'm sure there is a way to change it manually - the About tab of the program credits someone on NBR for help with registery settings - but I don't know what it is.

178.13 is doing well so far. Think I'll stick with it for awhile.

laptopvideo2go just posted 178.15 drivers. Looks like it fixes some OpenGL bug in 178.13 with Vista 32/64 bit.
