Nvidia delays GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card to avoid more supply issues

Checking my usual site for stocks trading I found this information:

• Nvidia (NVDA -2.3%) has delayed the GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card to build more inventory before launch day.
• The release shift only pushes the product back from October 15 to October 29
• "We know this may be disappointing to those eager to purchase a GeForce RTX 3070 as soon as possible, however this shift will help our global partners get more graphics cards into the hands of gamers on launch day.," says Nvidia's official blog post.
• The day follows Nvidia's apology for selling out of Ampere-based GeForce RTX 3080 GPUs soon after pre-orders started due to higher than expected demand.
• Upcoming catalyst: Nvidia will host its annual GPU Technology Conference from October 5 to 9.

So as @Papusan has been saying there is no much hope for mobile GPUs to come any time soon

I'm sure this decision has nothing to do with AMD's Radeon announcement being scheduled the day before.

 

I think they would have wanted to be selling them instead of sitting on them right now, only thing I can even fathom there is they are saving room for price reduction, even that seems thin. shrug.. we can only wildly speculate out of our rear ends.

 

I really think Nvidia is struggling with fulfilling the demand for RTX 3000 series. specs or price wise there is nothing Nvidia can do about the 3070 to react to whatever AMD is pulling

 

Yes there is. Nvidia can drop the 3070 price in response to AMD's announcement. They can do that in 24 hours easily--much more easily than doing it after the cards have already started selling to consumers.

I don't think this is the sole reason for the date change. I don't doubt nvidia is having trouble and struggling with supply issues too. But is timing the delay to one day after the Radeon announcement a total coincidence? We'll never know for sure. But I doubt it.

 

Yeah I know what you mean, I really hope AMD delivers a great product to bring prices down... secondary market (eBay, Amazon, etc) prices are just nuts, and primary market has not enough supply to avoid the prices sky rocket

 

Yeah they can reimburse/rebate AIBs if they already have silicon and are trying to get product ready to meet demand.

It'll all normalize soon enough I think. If you call a couple months "soon". I'm ok with that really. Thankfully quite a few of the AIB models have not moved from $699 for the 3080, that's a decent sign that there's not going to be any gouging of the 2080 Ti type like "well, there's no $699 cards available so you'll have to buy all these $700-800 cards.". I don't think we ever saw a 2080 Ti at $999 like it was supposed to be. The 3080 I have been looking at are all in the $700's anyway.

 

Yeah, why save up chips they easily could sell out yesterday? And the coming 3070 will follow paths.

That really really sucks.. I don't think the problem here is the demand is too high, that's crap... why the demand would be so high in this iteration?

 

1. Maxwell/Pascal holdouts
2. People staying at home due to COVID

 

Agreed. Turing wasn't a very good value proposition. The only reasons I bought a 2070 was it was what was out when I needed a card and I wanted to play with RT/DLSS so I didn't get a used Pascal card, and I didn't want to buy something used in general..

 

Why is Nvidia lying as usual? They have basically never came out with enough gpus..... Ever.
