Are you thinking about buying a machine with a 7600Go? If you already have one, why not just try it out?

I think you can run it at medium-high setting.
Shadow and shader and world setting should be low to medium, the rest can be high to medium. It look pretty nice. FPS should be around 30, in some case with lot of unit and action it my drop but playable.
    Good game though

No, the extra 256 MB that comes with the 512 MB version is a waste. it will offer no performance increase because the graphics processor cannot use the full amount of memory effectively. Even some of the high end cards cannot utilise that amount of memory properly. Save the $150, or spend it elsewhere.

    I have a 7600 w/256 and C&C 3.

So I am the guy to talk to.

You can run the game with everything maxed out. Problem is your mouse will loag a bit and your fps won't be as great as you would like them.

In the end I run almost everything at max, except for a couple areas. And I get great fps.

I use these settings with a 7600 go, and get around 25 fps.

As mentioned, the go 7600 is not fast enough to fully utilize the second 256 MB of VRAM. You would not see any performance increase.
That all depends on how demanding future games are going to be. If the developers go easy on us gamers, you will be able to play for a while. If they are all going to be like Crysis, then you will start to strugge with a go 7600 much sooner. The settings you want to play at will also determine how quickly you will feel outdated with a go 7600.

It is a mid-range GPU right now...and has already been replaced by the go 7700--with the 8-series to be released at some point this year. And it kind of seems like you really want to do some heavy gaming at high settings. Perhaps something like the go 7900 GS or higher would make you happier? Otherwise, waiting for DX10 GPUs may be worth it since you seem to be worried about obsolescence--but you likely won't need a DX10 GPU for some time.
