TL;DR there's a MX150 variant which is noticeably slower, yet comes without any distinguishing naming.

I don't think anyone who has been keeping up with the laptop GPU scene is going to be surprised. NVidia dominates it to such an extent that they just abuse that power in ways like this. And if you want to buy a high end gaming laptop, NVidia is your only choice. That means they can around like this and people still have to go back to them.

well, if it really works that way, then...

next up: gtx 2080 standard mxm cards with unlimited TDP, non-fluctuating clocks (i.e. no premature temperature-throttling) and universal compatibility for sub-500 bucks :D

    Let me fix:
Netx up; GTX 2080 standard MXM cards with 115 max TDP, non.fluctuating clocks, sub 500 bucks, performance like a desktop 1080 + 30%.

If you say unlimited TDP, notebooks not gonna be able to cool dat shiet :D

let me put it another way then: only regulation in place is of thermal nature, namely staying below 90C, anything else is unlimited, including TDP. that way it just depends on cooling and proper power delivery :D

This is why I don't get fanboyism. They're both publicly listed corporations who will intentionally screw consumers when the costs are outweighed by the benefits because duty to shareholders holds company officers and directors in breach if they don't... the only difference is one is 10x the size of the other so does 10x more screwing

I first noticed the underclock on the 430UN, it was 3dmark06 that gave it away something like 13000 vs the swift 3 20000. Then the HP Envy the same thing, then the lenovo, then the new ux331un. based on what ive seen with manual overclocks on an asus is the fan handles the thermal load fine of the same frequency etc, so im not sure if the OEMs were precautious before industrial design and ordered prior or what the go is. but its a bit of a let down.

the swift 3 is the only machine with a non underclocked mx150?

if you look up benchmarks for lenovo hp and acer on 3dmark.com you will see they are basically equal....not sure about asus

if lenovo uses a gimped gpu mx150 then people have found a workaround

ok so a 960m scores 4300 on average for 3dmark firestrike. a overclocked mx150 scores 4256....unreal something 0.6in thin can do medium settings 1080p gaming when overclocked.....that is simply a sign of the future...i was right about 1060/70/80 being desktop equivalents...and this time i predict the will have the same power but be desinged for very very low power consumption and formfactor..we will see laptops 0.5in thick with 1070 power in them..

I might pull the trigger on a lenovo 720s 14 with the mx150 as i think 1070 is overkill for my needs, ultra on farcry 5 looks very similar to low....and if i lower the settings on 1080p i can game just fine, and older great titles like crysis where graphics settings make a huge difference i will be able to game on ultra....so its perfect...

the laptop in question is discounted to 1032 cad so like 750 usd....and for something that has thunderbolt long battery life dedicated graphics on a 960m level and a good screen keyboard, amd such...well 1032 is such a good deal that i think ima pull the trigger, i was thinking of saving up for a aero 15x but whats the point....im paying for gimmicks...graphics settings these days are gimicks and so is per key rgb backlit keyboard.....the only reason to buy a new laptop these days and its almost moot point is refresh rate...144hz is just simply butter smooth..but then again so is 30fps with low movement games and so is 60fps with fast moving games...once you hit 60fps you imediately notice how smooth it is and anything above is hard to spot unless your a jerky fps player where the screen is moving like a adhd patient.

and as for this thread im not sure what the op is talking about, tons of mx150 laptops are able to hit 4200 gpu in firestrike d12 or d10 regardless of limits...the swift 3 is no different..then say the 720s in terms of performance...so why create a thread about something that simply put is not true in any way..scoring 20000 vs 13000 may be true for out of the box expereince however a monkey plus computer can tweak the settings and power limits to get the same performance, there is nothing advanced about overclocking....and when i get my 720s im going to get 6k in firestrike and touch 965m levels. my old 970m was great but the laptop was huge and i didnt even move it or use battery....i want to watch a movie amd game once in a while on the couch not sitting at a desk and getting a sore behind....defeats the purpose of getting a laptop...why would you buy something thats portable and use it like a non portable item...

so much about the way the world works and how people behave is beyond my realm of intelligence and understanding ala wisdom...people are becoming essentially crazy...no reasoning ala not thinking....all this technology thinks for us especially cell phones and the voice to text..that we are steadily becoming dumber and dumber....when i was in physics we had to think to solve, i did a high school exam for fun and everything was laid out just simple algebra nothing that requires thought...all laid out...if this is where were headed well we will destroy the earth in no time flat and are doomed for a great catastrophy. I know im not alone in my reasoning as stephen hawking (RIP) also warned us we need to change simply to survive.

so i touched on a lot....this forum need more discussions...the gaming section is almost dead...try to revive it.
