Nvidia problem (newer information?)

i searched the forum extensively and found plenty of old threads as of 3 months ago. however, nobody seems to have a complete list of the affected gpus. even the following might not be a complete list, but it is taken from the article at: http://itopia.ciquest.com/wordpressbeta/?p=47

i am extremely concerned because most of the notebooks that i plan to purchase feature a nvidia card, and this list pretty much covers most, if not all of them. another article that mentions the defect which i saw in several of the threads is here, but i haven't seen much discussion on it:

this statement is particularly chilling: "...all G8x variants other than the G80, and all G9x variants are defective, but we have only been able to get people to comment directly on the G84, G86, G92 and G94".

is this true? holiday sales are just about ending, and i really would like some additional information, preferably with the source posted. if not, then you can be the source if you own any card that has a defect.

 

Why is that dead horse of an inquirer article being raised from the dead and flogged again? Most of the source info on defective Nvidia GPUs comes from Nvidia's SEC filing and said article which takes elements of truth (8400 and 8600 cores problematic) and distorts them to ridiculous proportions.

 

But do we actually have a problem with the GPU's? or is it a driver related problem? Whereby nVidia are trying to get the GPU to do too much and causing the GPU to be stressed beyond its original design characteristics. If you look closely at the number of reported GPU failure's. It appears there is more being reported after nVidia released the later 169/170 series drivers. Could this be the real extent of the problem I wonder? The Inquirer is full of crap in my opinion, as such only nVidia really know what is going on. If you are worried, buy a notebook with an ATi card. But hey they too may suddenly start to fail.......

 

they might, but there has been no evidence from users as such, so i wouldn't worry particularly about ati cards. even the inquirer hasn't said that ati cards are failing.
