I thought it's about time to make a separate thread out of this.
And sum up the rumors.
So first thing first. Nvidia will release it's new Desktop GPU lineup in a few weeks. There is the rumor that is will be named the 900 series instead of the 800 series. Only at VC: NVIDIA to skip GeForce 800 series, GeForce GTX 980 and GTX 970 mid-September | VideoCardz.com
It's not the 1st time Nvidia has skipped namings. The 300 series as example, there has never been 300 series GPUs not Mobile nor Desktop.
Now why would nvidia call their new desktop series 900 instead of 800? Well that is because there has been leaks of new Notebook GPUs being developed with a rather close release date such as a month or 2 despite the release of the 800M series in April. This way both the new Desktop and Notebook GPU's have a consistent naming.
Now the 2nd question is. Why would Nvidai call their new M series GPU's 900M instead of like 865M, 875M, 870MX, 870M Ti, ...
Well the reason why they probably won't is because of a significant chance of architecture. The 800M series were almost all based on kepler. So the nest lineup will be Maxwell with a significant lower power usage. Also a couple weeks ago the news were around that the new Maxwell architecture is based on 20mm chips. So I suppose calling all the new GPUs immediately 900 series where both the notebook and Desktop GPU's are based on the same architecture seems quite reasonable.
Also on this post of user "Cloudfire" we can see a possible leak of a new laptop that has a 970M GPU.
I'm very anticipated about this GPU since it's about time for me to get a new laptop and I'm very eager to see the temperatures and overclocking results of these new Maxwell GPU.

I think this probably belongs in the same thread you linked: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...race-yourself-new-maxwell-cards-incoming.html

This would make it the 3rd "Maxwell is definitely here almost but not yet but perhaps I hope" thread. Cmon now.
