Hi everybody! From reading around on this site and others I have determined that I will most likely buy an HP laptop. My problem is however the wait for DX10. Right now a DV6000 is significantly cheaper than the DV6500 and I don't expect that to change soon. I was going to wait until the 8400M was released but now I am thinking that I will just go for the old model with the go 7400. I am concerned that when the DX10 cards are released I will have to compromise on other areas such as ram or processor and I don't think that it will be worth it since this is not going to be a primarily gaming laptop. So how much do you guys think the 8400 will add to the base cost of the DV6500? Will the 7400 run games on their lower settings OK? Thanks for your help!

Yes the Go 7400 is fine, performancewise it will run most newer games on med- low settings. The 8400 is DirectX 10 capable where as the 7400 is not. You will be more than fine with a Go 7400.

You are better off buying the dv6000t now. Even when the 8400M is added, it would not be capable of playing any dx10 games at any respectable rates. Games like crysis etc. And it would also command a premium price. Not worth the wait, IMO.

Going by previous performance indicators, each generation is about one and a half times faster than the previous one. I see the same increase for the 8400 over the 7400. Although, for concrete scores, only a review of a notebook with these cards(when they become available), would suffice.

Well, the business version of the 8400m (the 140m) performs twice as well as the Go7400, so the 8400m with good 3d drivers should be even better, as good as the x1600/x1700.

I would at least wait until may 15th for the dx10 demo to coem out.

If it runs excellently, dx10 is all that, and you should get 8400

Is is the 8400M G, GS, or GT in the dv6500t? The 8400M GT is pretty close to an 8600M GS in specifications.

    Hey,

I read in an article that, "until the introduction of revised drivers in June that are compatible with Windows XP, GeForce 8M Series will only work under Windows Vista."

Does this mean that these cards are only windows compatable? Ive been speculating that apple will introduce a new MBP in the next few months with an updated videocard, hopefully a 8XXXM series, but if its initially only for windows it will take more time for the card to be introduced.

The DX10 drivers coming out will be Vista only, but DX9 drivers should run on these cards very well. When the Desktop parts came out last year, people had no problem getting 450+ FPS on DX9 drivers, so current DX9 drivers should be fine.
