is it possible to upgrade video cards in laptops?

I have a dv8000t with a go7400, lets say in the next 6 or so months, would I be able to purchase a better card such as the 7800 or 7900 GS and put it in?

No, for the most part they cannot be upgraded. AXIOM and MXM are upgradable, but most laptops don't have that yet.

Well according to one of Chaz's front page items; Toshiba is putting it in their new gaming laptop. Supposedly they'll be starting it at $1999. Which is a pretty good deal, IMHO.

Hmz, well they are Nvidia benchmarks but based on clocks compared to each other that looks about right, IMO they scuffed the ATI clocks a bit and lets face it which one were they going to optimise ;)
