    Living in uni without a PC is a pain. So hopefully getting a second-hand laptop with C2D T7400 + Quadro NVS 130 + 1,680 x 1,050 soon.

From what I found, NVS 130M is a professional 8400M card, using the G86M core. I've a question - is this card affected by the NV G86 fiasco? On the one hand, it belongs to the series affected; on the other, it's a workstation card, which really sells on reliability.

That said, I am not too worried, as the warranty doesn't expire for another ten month. Though, could this card handle CS 1.6 at decent setting? I know 8400m should do okay fine, but this only have 8 SPs

P.S. CS 1.6 is all I really play - so not too bothered about running Crysis at full setting :D .

It has 16 SPs (I know, I had one a month ago). Sources on the internet are wrong.

CS 1.6 works great (all settings maxed, 1280x800 because that was my max res). Though it's not a demanding game, even a GM950 can play it fine.

The card will fail. It has the exact same problem. But if you keep it under 60C it will last a very long time.

Mine was overclocked a lot (over 50% on the core and mem). It uses memory that is rated at 700mhz (I looked at the datasheet for the memory).

It's a weak card, I wouldn't pay over $350 for the notebook with it.

    What's your budget?
We have some really good deals in the NBR marketplace ;)

    16 SPs? wow that's a surprise! :)
I'm just waiting for the delivery now. The spec is:

    Core 2 Duo T7500 w/Intel 965 Express chipset
    4Gb DDR2 667 RAM
    160Gb HDD
    Nvidi Quadro NVS 130M 256mb
    15.4" WSXGA+ TFT w/ 1,680 x 1,050
    Wireless 4965AGN w/ Bluetooth, WLAN (802.11a/b/g/Draft-N)

The laptop is Toshiba Tecra S5 - kinda more focused on business side, the reason behind getting it, is that I need to type a lot of stuff on it - and it should excel in that area; to me the GPU is just a bonus. Paid about $360 for it.

Lol, I had a toshiba tecra M9 with the 130m.

The GPU ran cool, overclocked it maxed out at 70C with furmark.
I sold it like ~2 weeks ago for $700AU shipped (in Australia you can get away with that kind of thing because tech is overpriced).

I overclocked my T7300 to 2.7ghz so you could also try that.

$360 is about the right price.

You seem to know a lot about Toshiba laptops, may I ask what your thoughts were on the M9? I tried to search for S5 review, but failed miserably, these laptops seem anything but well known - probably the high price initially meant it wasn't mainstream as such.

It can be OC'ed?!? wow this just keeps getting better! I've owned different laptops, anywhere from Thinkpad T41 to M1730 - not a single OC'ed... :(

(P.S. That was the UK price converted, stuff here are SO expensive- especially with the VAT)

I had a Tecra P4 (AU version of S4), Tecra M9 and right now I'm using Tecra A9. They are pretty good notebooks, but the screen is not as bright as most.
And they have a PC card slot instead of an express card slot.

Battery life isn't great, I get around 3hrs max on my battery (no wifi, min screen brightness just idle). With wifi just browsing NBR I get around 2hrs.

To overclock the CPU you have to do this:

Both my tecra M9 and A9 had the same PLL:
