With the Nvidia 8M series hitting the shelves, ATI seems pretty quiet. Besides the HD 2600XT in the HP, there has been very little updates on the progresses of the new ATI line (heard they should be in models near 8M mass release date).

So here are my questions, when will the new cards arrive and will they have more bang-for-the-buck compared to the 8 series.

    What do you think?

EDIT: I know there was a thread posted before, but I wanted to have a general poll about it.

Well the series is launched Monday, so perhaps you can wait that long?

I may be wrong, but I thought it's the desktop models that will be out on Monday.

Only the top end of the desktop range will be really launched on monday, As for the mainstream and low end, we might only get what they call as a paper launch. Limited production by end of june. Sources are from those chinese website..

    Your poll is kinda weird..
    May ~ June
(where did June ~ July went?)
    July ~ August
    August ~ who knows?

I doubt ATI will wait much longer since the 8Ms are fast approaching to consumer level laptops. Hope that will give more choices compared to just the 8M line.

Btw, seems like AMD is also updating it's CPUs as well. Any guesses on that comparison with Santa Rosa?

Oh, I ate June ~ July.

Also, are you sure AMD's GPU's are actually "hitting the streets" now? I know we've seen them in specs, but it seems that all the companies actually offering the new 8M GPU's aren't shipping laptops with them until later.

At least, I certainly can't point to a laptop I can go buy right now with an 8400M or 8600M in it.

Out as in "I can get one delivered to me now" out, or "out" as in you can order one now and they'll ship it to you when its ready?

It says "delivery 24 days" when i configure one of those Zeptos, so that doesn't really fit.

It seems like both NVidia and ATI have these GPU's "out" to the degree that they exist in some small quantities (we've already seen the reviews of the X2600 in HP's HDX), but I don't get the impression ATI is really any more behind NVidia in terms of when people will actually be able to go and buy a laptop and get it in their hands with one of these DX10 GPU's.

ATI is in AMD's kitchen, eating its foods

But honestly, I'm quite disappointed in ATI as well, though it may not be their fault...

I am pretty sure when that ticker hits 0 AM on 5/14, (most if not all) local stores/webs will not have ATI cards ready.

Looks like the Sony FZ series (with 8400M) is ready to ship within at most 10 B-days.

Actually I think you find they will.

    ;)

Guys wait till Monday, I said it because it's true. Can I say for certain the whole series will be launched? no. However in all likelyhood you will get information on when they will :)

"We should expect to see first batch of 2000 series mobile GPUs in July."

Guess you were wrong about the ticker-to-0AM thing eh?

I was talking about the card I care about, the HD2900xt which will be available. Also I said I did not know if the WHOLE series would be or not but their launch date would become known. So actually I was right ;)

I'm Chinese, just took a look at the site. I'll do a little translation then.

"According to sources, ATI is once again delaying the release of their graphics chipset products. This time, the delayed ATI graphics product are mainstream DX10 cards, Radeon HD 2600 and 2400 series. The RV630 and RV610 will enter production in May. Currently, AMD has already produced and displayed two prototypes, but are not based on the finalized A14 production process. Radeon HD 2600 and 2400 have already been delayed four weeks from its originally planned release date.

ATI is blaming the delays of the release of the Radeon HD 2600 and 2400 series on the large OEM orders placed by HP, Dell, Fujitsu, etc, who are dividing up the graphics card products among themselves. However, the real reason behind the delay of the release of the Radeon HD 2600 and 2400 series may be that TSMC cannot sell large quantities of 65nm Radeon HD 2600and 2400 products.

The Radeon HD 2600 and 2400 series was originally planned to hit the market at the end of May, however, the large scale release will likely take place at the end of June."

Hmmm. I wonder if the orders from HP were for the business line or the AMD consumer line.................

    :)

EDIT: Ooops. Just realized these were desktop cards. My bad.

I'm waiting for ATI to launch something so that apple can adopt it along with santa rosa.
