Today I started messing about with my laptop to see how much I could push it in the gfx department, and I must say, I'm quite impressed.

    My Specs:

    Acer 5920-6128
    1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5550
    2GB DDR2 SDRAM
250GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Blu-Ray/DVD Super-Multi Drive
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS with up to 256MB dedicated graphics memory
    15.4” Widescreen CrystalBrite Technology (1280 x 800) LCD
    Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection; WI-FI certified

    Stock:
    169.04 Forceware
450 GPU/400 MEM according to RivaTuner
    2414 in 3DMark06

    OC:
    169.04 Foreware
    660/515
    3315 in 3DMark06

    Almost a thousand point increase.

I tried bumping it higher, but I didn't have a problem with artifacts, I had the problem of 3DMark crashing and the display driver stop working. I haven't seen that before, but I assumed that was the alternative to artifacts.

    EDIT:
Actually, I think it worked at 665/520 in Oblivion, but I didn't play long enough to really test anything. I'm assuming that if 3DMark06 is crashing, then it shouldn't be set that high. There are reports of people pushing this card further though. I think I need to get another gig of RAM to see how that improves my score.

That's stock DDR2 8600M GT speeds, not bad.

Thats quite decent actually seeing that all other 8600GS DDR2's (like in Asus F3sv) only manage 2200 in 3dmark with stock drivers. Though there is quite a difference with the DDR3 versions :D. I should be able to OC to 4000 but my only stumbling block is temperture - it already rises to 78C with no OC :(.

close to 30% increase in clocks, and you got a 30% increase in score. For some reason it doesn't surprize me.. Quite nice though, so long as you dont destroy the notebook from overheating..

Temp, from what I've seen with 3DMark and Rivatuner, is usually 80-90c under load and 60-65c idle.

The benchmark was ran at 1280x800.
This is all running under Vista Home Premium as well.

With the OC I can run Oblivion maxed out. Since the tilde key won't work to bring up the console, I can't check my framerate, but it's smooth indoors and playable (20-30~ fps I'm guessing) outdoors. Totally not bad for an $800CDN laptop.

I need to get some more games, I have nothing really recent. Oblivion is the newest game I have.

    EDIT:
It seems I like the word "assume". :p

Well 1280x800 is my screen's native resolution, so I'm satisfied.

1280x800 is what it changes to when I hit the "Default" button in 3DMark.

Yes, it will default to that if your screen can't support 1024 or more in vertical resolution.
