yesterday I overclocked my GT 240m in my M15x, using nvidia system tools 6.02, hoping to get a boost in crysis, which i could previously play in medium graphics with like 40 fps. now in all the games i have launched, in lowest graphics like less than 20 fps. please help.

Umm.. Wouldn't the normal response be "turn the frequencies back to normal"?

Have you checked your GPU temp while overclocking? It could be GPU throttling that made your FPS crawl. GPU throttling happens when it overheats to a certain threshold level (usually over 95 or 100 Celsius degrees).

My bet is on the overclocking increasing the temperature to the point where the GPU has to throttle itself back to below its original clockspeed to keep cool.

is it possible that the processor was damaged somehow after i OCd the graphics card and that it is bottlenecking the gpu?

This is likely the display driver crashing at certain clocks, which will then lock it at lower than stock clocks until a reboot.

Reboot and then try a lighter overclock. Monitor the clocks with GPU-Z. I'd also recommend EVGA Precision over Nvidia System Tools. Temperatures are really a non-issue with the GT240M in the M15x. You'll reach unstable clocks long before unsafe temperatures.

Also make sure Stealth Mode is off. Sometimes it turns on when you don't want it to. Hit the stealth mode button a few times while playing a game and see if anything happens (it's the rightmost button on the touchstrip).

Don't feel stupid, I did the exact same thing the first day I started gaming on my M15x. Sometimes when going from battery power back to a/c power, it will remain in Stealth Mode.

This wasn't related to the throttling issues, that's only a problem with the GTX260M.
