By far the best ATI OCing software http://www.sapphiretech.com/ssc/trixx/

just download -> install -> choose the clocks in the software & guess what it underclocks on idle & goes to 2D without setting profiles or anything & goes on 3D clocks when it needs too just like ATI powerplay

Amazing ... give it a shot you won't regret it

Credits go to DEagleson for pointing it out in another thread

EDIT: no need to disable powerplay it works with powerplay on too ... also when powerplay is set to power saving it doesn't go to overclocked clocks ... so it simply replaces the 3D clocks with the OCed ones

I've just been using OverDrive, but this intrigues me, will give it a shot. Wow it does work! Very nice. Much faster and smoother than OverDrive/PowerPlay.

Unfortunately only veeeeeeeeeery few laptops can use overdrive :'(

On another note I could reach stable clocks with that software I couldn't reach before with MSI Afterburner

My AMD Overdrive limits me to a maximum of 710 MHz on the GPU and 1000 MHz on the memory.
But with Sapphire TriXX i could go beyond the artificial limit.

Not that i actually need to OC higher than the AMD Overdrive limit, but at least its an option.

So thumbs up for this awesome application.

This is great. I've been using AMD CCC2 even though I hate it because it's much easier to have OverDrive and PowerPlay than to use AfterBurn.

I maybe among the few, HATE Afterburn. It's bloated, has crap installs like Riva Tuner. I can't stand Riva Tuner. It's prifles for 2D/3D/UVD suck. It's just plain sucks.

But now with this, I can pair it with Radeon Pro. This is perfect! No more CCC2, unless when I need it specific for HDMI output.

Does trixx detect games well? I don't want something that'll randomly OC when I open a java software and not OC when I open a game.

It does detect games or at least all the games I have tried ... & that aint a small amount of games :D ... & so far it detected furmark, 3dmark06 & WEI ... I think it simply edits the 3D clocks profile of the card ... its amazing

So this application can overclock to a set amount when playing games and then downclocks when not in use? and from the table, I don't see 5870m :(

    oh holy crap.

    it can modify the voltage.

...and unfortunately can't reset to defaults (0.9 while at rest). I have to swap gpus or reboot to fix that.

but hey. it actually lets me modify voltage above 0.95 volts.

I'm kinda wary about messing with voltage at all though. So for now, not gonna touch stuff.

It doesn't state the supported mobile chips but it does work ...

As for the voltage control ... I wouldn't miss with the voltage with a 10 feet pole ... but thats me

Does trixx allow for user to edit what programs to enable OC and what not to? I use afterburner mainly because it could do that..

Also really? You can edit voltage? That's weird...wouldn't a cracked vBIOS be the only way to achieve that?

I have no idea how Sapphire manages that with their program but at the moment i think this is one of the best, if not the best overclocking utility for AMD / ATI cards.
    (Including mobility cards.)

I don't know how it messes with voltage since any and all other OCing programs I've tried either outright don't work, can only do clocks (msi afterburner) or crash windows 7 (amd gpu clock tool latest version).

Still. Very wary about messing with voltage. I dunno how good of a gpu I was given. Some launch envy 14s have gpus that crash after an hour of some games and not at all for others (and that person's gpu has continued to get worse. He can't exchange the computer since he's in china til..well the summer)

I'm no stranger to OC'ing, but what is the benefit of bumping the voltage? Higher clock speeds? I can bump my voltage from 1.000V up to 1.100V.

    Cons?

the pro is: "if your card can take it yeah you could get higher clock speed.

the con is: "ok more heat. Ok you bumped it too much you just burnt out your card"

Also in general I discovered that my gpu doesn't care. it maxes out at 550/800 still 0.95 or 1.0 volts. Any higher and it starts crashing. So no OCing for me (450/800 to 550/800 gets me about 3 fps)

    Thanks!

Not much difference with 1.100v. I'm stable at 700/900 with 1.000v and I could only get ~50 higher with a 1.100v. Still though, a great program. Thanks for sharing OP!

The voltage slider does not work with the FirePro M7820, so I have still to BIOS-mod the voltage. However, everything else works just as well and I think the Sapphire program can hold overclocking better than AMD Clock Tool, MSI Afterburner and even just manually flashing it with a modded BIOS!

    Great find MahmoudDewy! :D
