i dunno....people looking for high end notebook will probably be able to afford it i think. Their 8800m SLi is only a measly 450 compared with alienware's 1000.

When it comes to the top top end notebooks, I think your just better off with a desktop :/

I suppose there is that odd chance you cant use a desktop because your always on the go, that justifies it abit, but then again id be fine with a much cheaper 15" in that case for mobilities sake that will still play all the games just not at as high of a setting.

true..desktops are far more powerful than any notebook, but for those who want a powerful replacement but don't want to buy desktop and notebook it works out pretty well i suppose...im a student who loves games and where ever i go, there is a power outlet so it works out for me....only a fool would play games on a gaming notebook on battery power, on max settings.

Even on max power, the laptop will still perform worse than on AC ...

still for 2400 as a baseline its still quite lofty... and most people want the convenience of a laptop and gaming capability, but there still must be a balance. that beast for 2400 really only meets one of the standards and that is gaming, and even then if all you wanted was gaming well... for 2400 think of the dekstop beast you could build.

I game on a notebook because it isn't feasible to have a desktop on a ship when I am deployed or in Iraq as is the case now. Much easier to throw it into my backpack and go.

It's a question of choice. I personally love laptops for the fact that they're compact, meaning use less space, have a battery, are always something you can bragg with :D and most of all, they're fun, all in one PCs.
True, now they're more expensive, but with time, laptops will become more and more popular...and cheaper also...

The only reason why I purchased a Black-Hawk XR5 ( to replace my current laptop ) is portable power. Honestly, there are a few aspects why gaming / powerhouse laptops are good for me and some people out there:

    1) I love having the ability to game when ever, where ever. Buddy calls me up to game, boom out the door and setup in less than a minute once I get there. No hassle with laundry baskets carrying everything (you know what I am talking about :p).

    2) I am just too darn lazy to pack up a bulky desktop / monitor / keyboard and mouse to go somewhere and game. I personally enjoy playing in a lan with friends vs online gaming with friends. So a laptop easily helps me out here.

    3) I really enjoy being able to bring that much power with me where ever I go. I feel less 'limited' in that sense.

Actually, ever since I got my first laptop years ago, the thought of packing up my desktop has become a dreadful one and I don't want to do it anymore.

But, if I never needed to have this kind of power on the go I would surely drop the cash into a desktop in a heart beat. Nothing beats a solid desktop for performance.

I guess it just comes down too if you can afford to be lazy or not :)

after recently abandoning my desktop all together I'm starting to itch for a new one and will probably build one early next year.

Nothing beats the performance of a desktop and playing a game on a 24" monitor. But I sure understand the allure and purpose of a gaming laptop, my guess is I'll also get an alienware m15x next year =p

Next system I get will be a desktop that acts as my entertainment system, hooked up to an HDTV.

But until I can afford that, and an HDTV... And have a need for it... This laptop is my goddess.

    Not to mention a 360 elite.. <3

Wll I agree with vicious. For 3k you can get a very high end desktop and a mid range laptop or a cheaper priced high end laptop and a still high end desktop.

See if you can still find the Westinghouse LVM37W3

Its what I have 1000$ shipped for a full 1080P HD LCD that is super high quality, has internal scaling, a PC mode, and all the inputs you could ever need.

Best investment I ever made for my computer period.

This notebook use the Desktop CPU which makes it typically a mobile desktop. The only gap is the GPU.

yes...... he will...... purchase... m15x...... just like me... we will hold...... the power............. of a 17inch notebook which is bulkier, bigger, meaner, more expensiver, more uslesser, more not making senser compared to m15x'er, more heater, more weirdisher....

Yes... m15x will rule... its like an elf spanking santa...

it doesnt work... unless its alienware m15x

You make me laugh. Reading your post actually hurts my brain.

Packing the same GPU in a smaller machine will somehow give it better heat dissipating capabilities? Impressive, do enlighten me. Or of course, I could be misunderstanding that mess of a post you just made.

And.. more expensiver/uselesser/senser/heater/weirdisher? I weep for your English teachers.

The m15x is certainly an excellent machine on paper right now. Hopefully it will remain that way. I can't help but wonder if prices for it will increase though.

    Time will tell I guess.
