Hi, I'm running Oblivion on a M1210 with Vista Home Premium with the specs: 2.0ghz C2D, 2GB RAM, 7400 geforce go. For some reason, it crashes around about every 20mins of play or so. The only message that appears is "Oblivion has stopped working..." with Close Program as the only option.

I've searched through various forums looking for a way to fix this. Here are some of them:

    Running as Administrator
    Running with XP Compatibility
    Running with Disabled Desktop Compostion
    Patching with Shivering Isles
Checking if I have the codecs mentioned in the Oblivion site
Checking if the .ini file had bDoSpecularPass set to 0
Checking if my computer had the specs to run it
Lowering the gfx to bare minimum

Nothing seems to have worked. Do you guys have any ideas?

More RAM might help, how about a HDD defrag or potential reinstall if the 1st 2 solutions fail?

Defrag your hard-disc, Oblivion is sensitive to that as I recall. Also if that doesn't work, then uninstall Oblivion, then defrag the HDD, then reinstall it from scratch.

I seem to recall this problem when running Oblivion in vista but I can't remember where I read that discussion. Try google?

I defrag my hdd pretty often using Diskeeper. And I would've thought 2GB of RAM was plenty enough. I don't even use over 60% unless running virtual machines.

I've googled for many solutions regarding Oblivion on Vista, as seen above, but so far, none of them have worked. I will try reinstalling as a last resort due the bazillions of install files for the addons.

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming!

Yes, it's 32bit. I've done some of the things on that list, but some I'm unable to do, or just doesn't apply to me at all. Some things don't even look like they'll help, like setting Windows Media Player to default player? :\

I get that message every time i exit oblivion with the 167.43 gpu drivers.. never had it with 169.09 although they perform slightly worse in oblivion. Have you tried different drivers? Running oblivion on v1.2 update?

It's been a while since I last updated my video drivers, though my crashes don't appear when I exit, but during playing. I think Shivering Isles comes with the v1.2 update. I'll try updating the drivers.

I am still on SP0 as one of my drivers (Sigmatel) is still incompatible with SP1 and so it won't appear through Windows Update. :(

PS: Does anyone know which version I should use for the 7400? I have no clue about these things.

Yes shivering isles comes with the update :) I think 167.45 would be worth a shot, which ones are you currently using?

I think I have the 163.74 NVidia drivers. I don't update it if it ain't broke. But it seems broke right now. :\
