Hey everyone, a question concerning Oblivion The Elder Scrolls,

    First off, my system:

    Vista 32bit Service pack 1
Acer Aspire 5920G - Laptop Video 2 go driver - 175.80 - modded NVIDIA forceware
    Core 2 duo 2,4GHz T7700
Upto 1280MB NVidia Geforce 8600M GT Turbocache
    Direct x 10
    2GB DDR2
    Bios Version: 3811 from Acer

Ive got 8 times AA on, bloom, 1024 times 768 res and the rest of the texture options and view distances eg Distant lands etc, including shadows all at highest and enabled.

Water effects are all on highest and enabled.

Despite this im not getting this ''self shadowing'' whcih would cast a shadow on the floor as you walk around in the game.

As a reference check out this video showing the shadows and different graphical options.

    http://www.gamespot.com/video/0/6147082/videoplayerpop?

I wanted to try the best and then scale back but im not getting the self shadows in the game, no matter what I change.

    Driver issue?

    Thanks a lot, in advance!!!!!

first off, self shadowing doesn't cast shadows on the floor. it means that shadows generated from the character are cast on that character. you can see shadows on faces from their helmets, for example.

    its pretty glitchy.

Yeah but I was kinda refering to the sort of shadows that would normally follow around your character, either way I have all shadow options turned on.

For instance watch this video and see the character shadow following around the protagonist when he switches into third person.

    Any thoughts?

hmm have you tried mods for the shadows that you can find on bethesda's forum (and many other game related oblivion focused fora)? i believe you could get even better quality, shadows etc. just by using certain shadows... i don't have my gaming rig with me now so i can't tell you about which "plugins/mods" am i talking, still if you check the sources you'll find a lot of such products :D

aaah and of course you have the game updated to the latest version?

Well i tried the unofficial patch now too and no improvement on the shadows.

Im not getting any inside or outside shadows on the player or enemies or other characters despite this option being on full in the game.

I really dont know if further shadow mods/plugins are available.

    Thanks
