Oblivion is my favorite game of all time. I've only ever played it for the 360 and I've beat both expansions bought every DLC and done pretty much anything you can name. I've been playing it since it came out religiously. Now that I'm getting a computer that can run it I'd love to play it for PC, but it seems like the only thing that could refresh the gameplay is mods. Is it worth buying and playing again for computer just to mod? I still love doing things over again but not as much as before. What kind of mods are out there? Thanks :)

    Heck yah it is.
Get the graphics updates, you can download countless types of weapons, armor, spells, NPCs and enemies, etc.
As well as community designed quests that can add a lot of gameplay to it.
There is an Elder Srolls wiki on the mods, Google it.

Some mods can add dozens of hours of gameplay, as well as changing how the mechanics and leveling work. Not to mention seriously improving the graphics if your machine can handle it. Then there are total conversions that are an entirely new game based on the Oblivion engine.

If they base it on the Gamebryo engine that Oblivion was based on I'm not buying it. That engine blows.

aw dont be so hard on it. i think its awesome. i mean the physics could use a nice upgrade but nothing too drastic since your stats determine how you move. I think the whole sandbox/statistic style of leveling is awesome. statistic meaning, opening up the console and setting your speed to 10000 and pressing forward is either gonna put you on the other side of the map or crash your computer. XD

it gives it a really like, custom feel to it

Oblivion was a really bad game. Just awful. But the engine I don't mind. I haven't really played anything like it.

I'll definitely download that "total conversion" :)
I've been wanting to make a game for a really long time. Something with an incredibly open ended interface. The oblivion engine could work...

Definitely check out the Open Cities mod. It will take a little more CPU power, but if your computer can handle it, it's an awesome mod that adds to the overall immersion of the game. Instead of loading each city as a separate world, they're all incorporated into the main Tamriel world, so you can just open the gates and walk right in (or ride your horse). Definitely one of my favorite mods.

The only cities it doesn't incorporate are Kvatch (due to the fact that it would mess up a number of quests), and the Imperial City (because it's just too big).

I'd like to have your take on why you think Oblivion is an aweful game?
Also, I'm currently looking at private schools that offer game design and development degrees, and I'm a huge RPG fanboy so you can count on anything being made by me being awesome, open-ended, fully customizable characters, huge number of game-altering decisions, epic wars, epic quests, non-repetitiveness, all in one package. Harder then it sounds, I know, but with the proper training I know I can do it :)
Right now I still just have a lot to learn
