I just bought Oblivion and OMG. It pwns.

But...im having some minor performance issues, im running an ATI X1600 256mb card, with Omega's no OC'ing. And im not breaking the 28fps mark outside and it dips pretty low sometimes.

What tweaks or what should I do? I havent been into Oblivion too long so im rather lost in the Oblivion world...

    Thanks! :)

To start I would suggest joing a guild and making some money. It depends on which to join depending on your charcter. Raiding some ruins/mines/caves and such to get some experence and stuff to sell. Just level up and get some good weapons and armor before you do the main quest. You could also go searching for some minor quests to do to get some money and fame. But the game is really about doing what ever you want. If you want to just go around GTA style killing everything in sight, thats ok too.

How would you join a guild? And how do you find small quests?

    Thanks! :)

To join the fighters or mages guild you talk to a guild hall master about "Join the <guild name> guild". To join the Thieves guild or the Dark Brotherhood you must be a little....sinister ;)

As for small quests theres certain people out in the world that offer you quests. Talk to everyone and listen to rumors. You'll hear about random little quests very soon.

If you're eager to follow the main quest I recomend to level up to level 3 at least and make sure you've got at least a steel weapon and a full suit of armor (make sure the type matches the type you're skilled with) and some decent potions or healing magick if you're a fighter or stealth type. If you're a mage type, make sure you've got a couple nice attack spells and a good healing spell or pleanty of ingredients for that alchemy skill.

I think this should be moved to the oblivion thread, btw.

That wouldn't happen to be Thoronir you're following would it? If so, I just finished that quest about twenty minutes ago.

I'm thinking something is wrong with my system though. a 256MB 6600GT w/1GB ram and Celeron D 2.66, best I can run it at is 640x480 :S

If you want a quick load of cash go through the arena quest chain.

Yeah, my 6400 arrives today, so I'll try it on that. If it goes any better, then I'll ask Dad to fork out for a decent socket 478 processor.

Do whatever you want. The fun of Oblivion is not know what to do at first, and then as you play you figure out how things work and what to do. You dont need to ask others what you should do, do what you want. But my personal advice to you would to go out and explore for a while. You dont seem do understand what the game is about, exploring will help you understand and get a grasp of what to do. Oh and TALK to people, you learn so much and get tons of great quests just from talking to people.

Whatever you want. I remember on the original box for Elder Scrolls Chapter 1: Arena one of the major things it said was "Live another life" and "Make your own choices". Thats the beauty of the ES series. Do whatever you feel like doing :)

But it appears you just did the save Kavatch quest, which means [MINOR SPOILER ALERT]

you should have taken Martin back to Jauffery in Wanon Priory and then to Cloud Ruler Temple

Something to do is to talk to the NPCs. They'll tell you where to find things, mark things on your map, involve you in plots, etc and so forth and so on.

Well, I found a good way to get Oblivion to run better - get a better processor!

My new e1505 w/X1400 and Core Duo runs it much better than my desktop :D
