Why is it that in oblivion when someone casts a spell my weapon turns completely white and so do theirs and trees turn green or blueish? I have playe the game before on PC and on 360 and I am positive it isnt like this. Any ideas? I have the latest drivers and my laptop is more than capable.

Such forums often have threads where people report having all sorts of problems; with half a minute of searching, you may just find the solution instantly without having to troubleshoot. If anything, most problems should be researched in this manner before asking people about it.

Anyways, if you have an ATI card, it would be best to modify ATI's Catalyst driver with the Mobility Modder (google it, the first link comes with DL link and instructions on how to use it). If you have an Nvidia card, you can use the latest drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com; these drivers also require INF modification.

reinstall drivers? Ive been told that at leats 10 times for other games and it has never worked. And they are the latest so i cant update them. Also laptopvideo2go.com drivers seem to run games like crap for me. And my weapons dont really flicker. The weapon just turns white until the spell effect is over or once it is casted. Big trees will just turn green or blue. Ill try re-installing the game. thx for help.

And Arom, I apologize for overreacting, it was 2:00AM as I was posting that and Im also form the GT forums where everyone is always looking for a fight so mis-interpreted your post. Basicly I thought you were trying to be a smart *ss. Anyways the reason why I didnt look there is because I thought oblivion was old and the forums would be dead.

If you've got the game fully patched with up-to-date drivers, then it's time to check the temps. You can use a program like Hwmonitor to record your maximum temperatures. Btw, what GPU do you have? If its an 8400 or 8600 then you may have a defective video card.

temps are good. I have hwmonitor as we speak. All other games work. But I did a bit of research and found this is a common issue with laptops.

I would be interested in hearing what specific graphics card you have; it's actually quite important, given that Nvidia recently manufactured a large number of 7th and 8th generation cards with low-grade materials that couldn't deal with specified thermal cycles; in other words, these cards would fail without warning. Sometimes it happens slowly (possibly as in your case) and sometimes it happens suddenly without warning (as it did with an HP I used to own).

I searched several forums and Oblivion wikis and I didn't find anything remotely similar to the problem you're reporting. Given that we've gone through all the possibilities, there isn't much you can do besides testing different video drivers.

RE-EDIT: I re-installed and now it works but this time I didnt update it to the latest version, do you think I should? Last time I installed patch before playing so I dont know if it was the patch.
