I'm not really sure why this is.. Even with like the lowest resolution there's this annoying choppyness. I did update the game to the 1.2 patch but that didn't stop the choppyness. I'm not sure why this is happening because I've seen other people run it well at high settings with no choppyness on the macbook pro. I have the 512 vram 2.5ghz version, 2 gigs ram. What should i do???? It shows decent framerates but for some reason it's choppy.

Crysis runs great on my computer at a good resolution with mostly high settings. It seems like the choppyness stays with whatever resolution I choose in oblivion. Even at 800 x 600.

You may need to use updated graphics drivers, read the sticky in this gaming subforum about updating graphics drivers.

You'll need to go to laptopvideo2go.com and I recommend looking in their forums for the 175.19 driver. There are special instructions for installation, please follow them closely (they exist both in the stickied thread above and in each and every thread on laptopvideo2go.com.

I actually just went back from a 175. driver to the ones that came with bootcamp to see if it would fix the problem but it didn't.

Then try defragmenting your hard drive and then turn down the drawdistance or whatever the equivalent setting is in Oblivion that determines how far away it draws the world. Oblivion has always been notorious for texture popping and choppyness while it loads graphical information, at least that is what it would do on my Xbox 360.

Having your HDD defragmented might fix the issue by rectifying a data file that may be extremely fragmented.

Are you running it through Bootcamp? That's the only way you'll get it running full speed on your MBP.

I tried the 175.63 drivers and those are what I uninstalled earlier. I couldn't do the 175.19 drivers like someone above said because there is no modified inf file and it isn't compatable with my card i guess.

I have this too no matter what the settings. I'm riunning it on a sony with a 8400m GT. I found 167.43 to be the only drivers that could play the game somewhat smoothly so try an older version. I believe oblivion is a console port also so it probably has little optimization for laptop hardware :(
It's a pitty too because morrowind ran better on my old laptop with an old* intel igp than it did on my xbox:\

I'm already running windows xp proffesional under bootcamp, sp3 is installed. I can run crysis at most high settings at around 1280 x 768 resolution and get about 25 to 35 fps. So i have no clue why oblivion is choppy. It doesn't seem like regular lag eather, it's just every second or shorter than that it stutters a little bit. I also just installed a 177. something driver and it works really good with crysis, but didn't fix the stutters in oblivion.

I did actually install a replacement terrainnoise.dds to fix some grass or something, I think it may be causing a problem somehow. Could anyone send me the original file? It should be at C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\Textures\Effects . If you could just email it to me at [email protected] or aim send it to me at weste47 . That would be great. Thanks!

it's like a constant stutter, that is noticable the most when you look down at the ground.. I have nothing modified since I installed other than installing the 1.2 patch. So I have no clue what it could be.

Ok just a few things to try out and see what happens

1, turn all of the settings to as low as they can go and see what happens. If the game does not stutter than it may not be a problem with the driver. Esp if you have other games that work fine on the mac. Also make sure that you do not have any AA on

2, the data for the save files is stored in start/MyDocuments/MyGames/Oblivion
simply copy those files place them in a safe place... place the file that you copied back when you reinstall the game and your saves will be in the game. you will have to reinstall all the mods that you are using though.

3, Download FRAPs and let us know what you are averaging FPS wise

4, I cant remember but there were some settings that could be adjusted, Vsync etc in the main start up panel of Obliivon. Try turning it on and visa versa and see what happens.

    Hope some of this helps

I had a problem like this. Turned out to be a sound issue. Try switching off sound in the game and see if it helps. If so there are a number of mods around that help to alleviate the issue ("quieter footsteps" is one I think).

    Oh thats true MozzUK.. +REP

Intergrated sound cards have Problems with Oblivion sounds, so the Quite feet mod will fix the stutter if the sound is what was causing it.

Hmm...didn't have this problem when I ran Oblivion under Windows XP in Boot Camp. I can suggest one thing though...do you have your battery in while gaming? If your battery isn't in, your CPU downclocks to half it's speed even if it's plugged in. I used to get crap fps when playing CPU intensive games like TF2 & CS:Source.

its like... every second, stutter, stutter, stutter, stutter . It is very noticable when you look towards the ground. I'm getting about the same fps as I do in crysis, which is about 20-35 and in crysis it seems pretty darn smooth, but in this is just stuttery. I don't get it... I even tried turning the volume off, and it iddn't fix it. I also tried capping the ifpc or something like that at 60 and it didn't do anything eather.

What happens when you stand still and just look around in 360 degrees very quickly, is there stutter there?

I don't understand what the deal is on your system...maybe you should uninstall all recent drivers from the add/remove panel. Then restart and the default bootcamp video driver will autoreplace it. I think it is 167.44. Then try it again.

Otherwise, uninstall ALL of Oblivion, make sure all the folders and addons and mods are gone. Then reinstall the game without ANY mods.

not set the sound to 0 mate, google for Quiet feet mod,

what it does, is Eliminating the sounds of tiny Critters on the ground, since Oblivion has a Glitch that the Processor does all the sounds in high range even if you arent at that area, so using this mod will make the Processing of sounds inthe area you area at only.

k, just tried it, and the stuttering is still there. What the heckkkkkk. I tried the original macbook bootcamp nvidia drivers, and a 175 driver a 174 driver and a 177 driver which I am using now. Which seems to run nice on crysis. I have no idea how to fix this, but it's really buggin me. I wana play this game!

    Thanks for the +rep.

I still think it's sound. Even the quiet feet mod didn't work for me. You could try these mods: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13016, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12331 but I don't think they'll work either.

The only thing that worked for me was disabling in-game music or in-game sound altogether which you have to do by editing the config file. Tweakguides details the exact cfg tweaks. Try them and see what happens (back up your cfg first):
    http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_9.html.

I don't think it is , i gave it a shot. Is there any diagnostic tool to check if my video card is performing right?

Also after uninstalling one set of drivers, then running ccleaner I popped in the leopard install disc to reinstall the nvidia drivers that come with bootcamp, and my space on my computer lost about 200 or 300 mb of space compared to what it did have with the drivers i was running from laptopvideo2go. Do you think it installed more than it should have??? All i clicked was it said like "repair/install" . So i don't think that should have messed anything but up , I'm just tryin to find an answer to why mine doesn't run as well as other peoples mbp's.

You might want to post in the Mac Forums for a greater exposure to exact same machines. I'm running 169.xx drivers and only now with the 8800gts do I like how the game performs. My old 7900GS did not run this game as well out doors but fine indoors.

Hope you find a working set up..great game!

I don't know if it has been mentioned before:

Turn off ALL sound via the INI file (Google is your friend on how). Does that fix it?

If so, you might need to consider purchasing an external sound card to use with the ExpressCard slot. Oblivion is one of the few games that can get sluggish on integrated/motherboard sound cards.
