If you can please post the following:

    1.Laptop model number
    2.Driver set
    3.OS
    4.What utility are you using
    5.Scores before and after
    6. A bios Dump

I know for a fact for most who can't O/C its due to a driver lock. I can O/C using the 101.XX but anything newer than that I simply can not do it. Due to the fact my card O/Cs really well from 475/700 to 630/900, I can safely say if I could get the new drivers to work plus my O/C, I would be ready for Crysis, ect...

Ok, this is the first time you've told me that...

And that was productive! the latest versions of Rivatuner allows OC'ing on 16X.XX drivers. http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner. You just need to completly remove the old version.

Have you completly removed all drivers before installing the new ones? the same goes with rivatuner.

I think I figured it out, at least partially! I kept having the problem most people have with their 8600 GT: you set new core & memory clock speeds with Rivatuner, and after you click 'okay', the sliders jump back to their default speeds.

Not anymore! Using Rivatuner 2.04 and laptopvideo2go's 163.67 beta driver, I can succesfully overclock my Core clock to 519MHz (not that much of an improvement, I know). Overclocking the memory doesn't seem to work yet, as that keeps jumping back to 650MHz. Anyway, here's what I did:

    1. In Rivatuner's main menu, click Power User.
    2. Then, click on RivaTuner \ NVIDIA \ Overclocking.
    3. Click on the ShaderClockRatio tab that has now been listed. Double click on the Value field next to it, and enter a value of -1. According to Rivatuner's documentation, this setting makes the Shader overclock automatically along with your Core clock setting (since driver 163.67 you can overclock shaders independently - before this was done automatically).

This works for my Macbook Pro (with Windows Vista 32-bit). I've not done any benchmarking yet but I'm curious if it works for others as well!

This might not fit in this thead but it does related to O'C and 8600m GT. I hope some one wise can assist me in answer this question.

I have Vostro 1500, so it is the 8600m GT DDR2 version.

I want to OC as well and I have 163.67 driver installed with the 2.03 RT final.
Is the default core clock for ddr2 version 513, so is my O'C by Default oO ? because most people here reflect that it is 475 on default which I though was until I saw it on RT. (No just this version, all of them reflect 513). Also, the temperature reading seems to be not working with driver 163.67 at all , it sits at 0 degree celcious (I wish, it's true) and is that the same for everyone else?

    Hello ,

I'm with riva tuner 2.04 , 8600M GT stuck at 475/400 since 160.XX , GPU temperature meter does not work anymore with 163,67 and 163,69. You'ree not alone :)

Glad to hear I am not alone on the temperature reading issue thank bud. Rep Ya.

Hmm, but with 163.67 drivers I still see 513 on my Core Clock... Dell must have done something stupid, and OC my card. ;)

Damn, a little update: apparently my Macbook Pro 17" is supposed to run at 520MHz core, which I can now "overclock" to in Rivatuner because of step 3 (see above). I'm actually not overclocking at all it seems - for some reason Rivatuner lists my 8600 GT as 470MHz instead of 520MHz at default.

Is there a special command to use when uninstalling riva tuner to completely remove it before installing the new one? and the same with the vid drivers, will just uninstalling them completely remove em? or do we need to do something to our registry to remove the old stuff.

Drivers might leave some stuff when uninstalling. You need to boot into safe-mode and run driver cleaner. Don't know about Riva tuner.

No go for me with the 163.44, Vista 32Bit, RT 2.04 and 8400M GS. Too bad the tweaking programmers doesn't adress this issue for mobile gpu users.

Also, RT clocks my card at 432Mhz default in 3D mode when it should be 400Mhz stock clocked.

    WHICH DRIVER TO USE ????

    I've tried 156.10 , .55 , .57
    101.7 (overclocked)
    163.44 , .67 , .69

    3D Marks06 :

    163.69 : 3270
    163.67 :3260
    163.44 : 3280
    156.55 :3340
    156.57 :3330

156 gets better score because they run at 1280x800 , 160.xx runs at 1280x854 ( custom res). My favorite is tweakforce g mobile 163.44. Most stable IMO.
I had 2 crash in Dod ( just driver crash) with 156.55 and 163.67. Globally I've never had any real graphic issues ( no glitch , errors or even bsod , vista is g00d ! ) .

FPS score : Tested games are Arma , MOH airborn , bioschock.
I have SAME average result with all 160.xx drivers :

    Armed assault 1440x900 : Very Low : 40 FPS
Low : 25 FPS (not playable)

    Bioschok demo 1440x900 : Medium : 20 FPS
    Low : 40 FPS (playable)

    MOH airborn demo 1280x800 : Medium : 20-27 ( laggy but playable)

Can't oc since 163.44 and 156 ( mobile driver) , no gpu temperatur since 163.67 ( even with ati tools) !! What a mess !

What about hybrid forceware , did u tried that ?

I can't stop tweaking , its in my bloodddd !

    Edit : OC report :

    Driver 158.xx ( can't remember) , normal clock 475/400 , stuck at 600 for cpu , running stable at 580/500 , 3DMarks 06 : 4000.
I've stop oc' because gpu get very hot : 76° celsius in Moh Airborn.

Correct, you need to completely clean your old drivers. For Rivatuner, I believe the command is "rivatuner.exe /ud", though I'm not 100% positive on that. Read through the Rivatuner forums for more info.
