The official ATI 5.9 Catalyst Control Center came out a day early on driverheaven's site. It's now available on ATI's site. ATI previously never released drivers for mobility cards unless you had an X700 or above. Now you don't have to go and run any mods or get the drivers from omega.

Sweet! Just installed it on my laptop (Sony A690). Its got a 128MB X600. Works great. The main thing that I wanted was theater mode so I could watch a full screen movie on my tv, but not have it full screen on my LCD screen. And it works! Yay!

I have a x700 256 meg video card. Would it be useful for me to update to these new drivers. If so, can you provide a link. Thank you

I upgraded to the 5.9 Mobility Catalyst drivers! :p

It's not so much that I care about the 5.9 drivers - the thing that really caught my eye was the CCC - that's awesome!!! So glad I have that now! ;) :D

Okay, I have two questions. I hope some of you that have installed the Catalyst 5.9 could answer them:

    1) For those of you that have installed the driver with a X300/X600 card w/ 128MB, did hypermemory become enabled? Is your laptop showing an additional 128MB (256MB total)?

    2) What is a CCC? Is it something along the lines of the Control Center that come with other Catalyst drivers?

    Thank you!!!

    1. I have a 128MB X600. I've heard of this hypermemory thing, but I dont think my specific laptop has it. I still have 128MB only.

    2. CCC = Catalyst Control Panel -- See picure. Just a program that allows access to pretty much all your video settings.

    Thank you, shockwave777.

I'm pretty disappointed the new Catalyst 5.9 won't enable Hypermemory. I guess a BIOS update by the manufacturer is a must for that feature.

Hypermemory is a waste on the X600 anyhow. I've been trying to figure out how to disable it. Bottom line, though, X600 doesn't have enough fill rate to take advantage of more than 128MB of video RAM.

the main thing i noticed with the update is that i can now adjust HDR settings in hl2, so definitely get the new 5.9 driver if you plan on playing day of defeat: source in 1hr and 20 min. :)))))))
