The cpu isn't the problem though because when i turn down the shaders to medium i get 15 more frames (linked to gpu) so i'm not getting bottlenecked from that.

I get about 15-20 fps at default settings (low to mid i think, i'll check later) at 800x600 and 1280x800, but my laptop isn't the best for gaming tbh :p

i'm still having problems with the multicore rendering enabled (I want it on because it boost my FPS by about 10). When it's multicore rendering is disabled, there are no more random 10 second freezes with audio stutters.

    My specs: t7100 (1.8ghz c2d), 4 gigs of ram, 8600m GS GDDR2
    I'm using 181.22 Dox drivers.

Please, share if anyone has figured out how to fix this multicore render issue. Thanks.

I'm happy with 1366 x 768, 4x MSAA, 8x AF, and maxed settings. Dips to 20's when it gets crazy outside, like the gas station on the 1st campaign, but it's solid 30-60 otherwise. The AA is pretty well optimized, I get a much larger dip turing up the resolution. This runs smoother than no AA at 1600 x 900. CPU gets very hot on this game.

Not reading the entire thread, too long :)

I'm going to my parents' for a few days, but I'd really like to bring l4d with me. Normally I'd play it on my stationary PC, but I'm obviously not bringing that with me. I am bringing my Eee PC 1000H (upgraded to 2 GB RAM) with me though. Is there any way to run l4d on it? I own the game so tweaking is available. I've had no luck so far, can barely get to the main menu. Anyone who can achieve this is a tweaking god in my opinion.

Um you have not the slightest glimmer of hope to get it to run on an Eee!

The only netbook capable of running L4D should be Asus N10, otherwise you are out of luck.

Got Left4Dead running at around 5-10 fps with this method. I'll try around a bit more, but the fact that I'm running the Windows 7 beta is already making it unstable.
