Alright, here's the deal.
I redownload Steam, and my 3 Source games (DoD: S, HL2: DM, CS: S) and upon starting them, after the "preparing to launch XXXXXX" The HL2 engine crashes. (hl2.exe has stopped working) It might be a problem with just source games, but I think it might have something to do with all of steam perhaps?
Any insight will be appreciated, thanks.

Well in TF2, if I don't press escape right as it is loading up....it'll minimize and maximize like crazy or if I hit escape too late.....it'll freeze
-
Well, nothing happens. It goes "Preparing to launch *game" then it doesn't even go into the game. No block screen flicker, no anything. It just does nothing for a second then the error message comes up. "hl2.exe has stopped working." Really making me angry...Because I just helped start a DoD:S clan. xD

I have the exact same issue going on with Steam and the game Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. I can't seem to find a way to fix the issue.
For me it tries to start and than says, "vampire.exe has stopped working".
Anyone with information on how to fix this issue...it would be much appreciated!
I heard it *might* be some sort of python code issue, but I can't see how that would be relevant to hl2 as well as Vampire: The Masquerade. -
Okay. So I know it's not the Source Engine. Question being, is this problem universal? I've spend the past two days uninstalling and reinstalling the games over half a dozen times, all in different orders and methods. No luck running any of them.
EDIT: I've also checked to see if there were issues with my undervolting and overclocking. They're not related... -
Try different driver version?

A friend of me had a message on steam a few days ago:
"YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT HAS BEEN DISABLED !"
And he can't play his games any more... (And no he didn't hack)
I found something on google, i think his account is hacked....
Now he send a mail to valve but they never send back lol.
Steam has a lot of good games on it but sometimes you freak out by steam -

Should I run Steam as administrator or the games, because I seem to neglect making shortcuts for my games... xD
Oh, and I really don't know how to default everything to administrator. -
Few questions: Did the steam games work on your comp before or is this the first time you're trying them out? Are you running on Vista? Have you installed the newest version of AIM (6.5) on your comp?
I know this may sound wierd but AIM 6.5 messes with Vista pretty bad. All my steam games worked fine then I installed AIM 6.5 and I had the same issue you did. I did a system restore and all the steam games worked fine. Reinstalled AIM 6.5 to see if that was really the culprit and yep it was. -
Hey Kierk, if you can't get Steam up and running, I'll put your account to good use for you
-
Lol.
But... AIM? I do have AIM installed. Steam games have always worked fine before, but there were a few months before I took a break playing them and me installing AIM 6.5. So I never isolated AIM 6.5 with the problem. I'll uninstall AIM and see how it goes. It all of a sudden makes sense. Vista has been acting up ever since I installed AIM, but because I was really tweaking my computer, I could never isolate AIM as the problem. I hope AIM clears itself up.

try aim ad hack. it removes all the 'crap' aim comes with, such as aim toolbar, aol explorer, etc. etc. Theres actually quite a large list of junk aim ad hack removes. Maybe this will work with Steam?

Thanks, harpreet1988, but I opted out of all the software AIM so generously offers to install. I just found a fix for it. It will definitely solve many problems with AIM, maybe even Steam, which I will find out tomorrow. (I'm going to bed) It's in the Windows OS/Software subforum. Check it out.

I've had the problem with Steam. Uninstalled it, said good riddance. Problem solved.

I fixed my issue. It was caused by certain SDKs I had installed, Microsoft Developers Kit, DirectX August 2007 SDK, etc. I uninstalled all of developer kits I could find (including C++ 2005) and now it all works.
It seems that there must be a conflict occuring between the SDK files and what the files the game would normally access during usage.
No more "Vampire.exe has stopped working"!
It is a shame this game was released too soon, it is QUITE fun and has a fantastic script. (Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines)
Oh joy. Steam games don't work...
