So my cousin is probably going to start playing source again. I usually use his account since he doesn't use it, but now that he's going to use it, I need advice on which steam package to buy.
I have my own individual steam account with half-life and counter-strike 1.6. I want CS:S and all the half life 2's so I was thinking that I just buy CS:S for $20 and then buy the orange box when it comes out later. I can either go with that plan or buy this with the orange box: http://steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=package&SubId=42&cc=US instead of just source.
I have never played day of defeat source so I don't know if it's worth buying. I didn't like day of defeat when I played it because of the look, but source looks amazing (probably not as cinematic as cod2). I just need opinions on the multiplayer in day of defeat. I don't think I'll play the half life 2 deathmatch at all because when I played on my cousins account, I didn't enjoy it much.
I also thought about the package that has Gary's Mod with source, but I don't know if it's worth it ($5 more).
Lastly, is does the updated graphics in Half-Life: Source make a big difference? The game looks a lot better and I never bothered to beat he original half life. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

i just recently purchased the source premier pack from steampowered.com for $60 and i don't have any regrets. you get half-life: source, half-life deathmatch: source, half-life 2, half-life 2: episode 1, half-life 2: deathmatch, counter-strike: source, and day of defeat: source.
unless you want the classic titles (cs: 1.6, dod, team fortress classic, etc.), the source premier pack is the way to go. for the price, you get some of the best games ever. i don't play hl2: deatmatch either, but i love dod: source. it's spawn-based and very fast-paced, unlike cs. graphically, i think dod: source is the best-looking source fps to date. it's simple, but i enjoy it a lot.
gary's mod is fun, but i don't see it as a necessity. half-life: source makes a marginal difference in graphical quality, but it's still worth playing through regardless.
have you also considered picking up battlefield 2? that's another great online multiplayer fps. oh, and you can download insurgency: modern infantry combat from fileplanet.com. it's a brand new half-life 2 mod available for free. it's a bit more slower-paced than other fps games, but it's still great. -
i've played bf2, it is a great game. I'll try out insurgency, it looked amazing when I saw it before. I do have all the classics so I'm just need the half life 2's and counter-strike:source. I wish Valve created some kind of point system where you can buy a package of pts and spend it on different games and each game costs a certain amount of pts. This would make it easier to just pick what you want. I just wish I could try out day of defeat:source and half-life:source. I think I may consider the multiplayer pack for $10 more than buying Counter-Strike:Source for $20 since it includes day of defeat:source. Then I can just get the orange box later with all the half life 2's and some other great games. Thanks for your suggestions.
edit: I watched some gameplay vids of day of defeat:source. I'm def buying this game with Counter-Stike:source, lol..
