Righto, my brand-spanking new laptop should arrive within the next few weeks and I can't wait to get my grubby little mitts on it.

I've searched a lot of websites. Read a lot of reviews, and I'm, generally, pretty impressed with it.

Now, although it's fundamentally a work-only machine, being a hardcore gamer, I must have my daily fix.

So, tell me what it's capable of (and not, obviously).

    15.1" ULTIMA-M11/800FSB/MODEL-D40/410EV
    Intel Pentium 4 Processor 3.06ghz
    TFT-SXGA (Res = 1400*1050
    512 DDR RAM (2 * 256MB)
    ATI Mobility Radeon M11/9700 128mb
    80GB HDD (5400 RPM)

    Hit m3h!

    SPECS: Soon. Soon.

    SPECS: Soon. Soon.

The 2 main things that will slow your system down is the memory(521mb, optimal 1GB), and more seriously the Graphics system (m11 is pretty underpowered). That being said, you should be able to play CS:S on it just fine -- CS:S has a very efficient graphics engine. Just don't expect to be able to turn on all the eye candies at the native resolution. Now if you want to play Doom3... hmm... u might need to dial down the detail and the res wayyy down to get adaquate frame rates. Basically the m11 is a slightly faster clocked 9600. It is not equivalent to the desktop 9700pro, as the 9700pro have double the pipes compared to the m11.

I mostly only play WoW now and then, my experience w/ that game is that you need more system ram as well for it to run smoothly. The game actually ran smoother on my laptop with a slower HD but 1GB of ram, as opposed to my desktop with a much faster HD and 512MB of ram.

The P4HT is plenty fast for most apps, but obviously its gaming performance will not match that of the PM machines -- as games in general are not multi-threaded and can't benefit from HT -- in fact HT hurts performance in that aspect.

It's an adaquate setup for casual gamers I would say, if you are really into gaming on the laptop, u should get a laptop that has at least an ATI x700/ Nvidia Go6600 gpu in it, or preferably, one with the Go6800/x800 gpus, or ultimately, get the Dell XPS2. [ :D]

I'm currently playing WoW at 1920x1200 with all detail MAXED out on my I9300 -- its got the Go6800 gpu. very nice.

    hope that helps,

    cheers,

    yass

You are saying that PM machines run games better? Once I get 2 gigs of RAM, I'll have to give that a shot.

Excellent, thanks a lot for the feedback.

Although I'm heavily into video games, I can't really afford to be playing them all the time considering this laptop is predomintantly for University.

As long as I can play HL2 and CS:S (Plus a few odd games), I'll be happy.
I guess it's sort of beneficial that my laptop isn't THAT fast, it'd distract me from my goal and that's the last thing I want if I intend to succeed!

    SPECS: Soon. Soon.

I'll definitely let everyone know what kind of performance I get out of this laptop. Knowledge is power, ya'know!

I've noticed that there's no reviews at ALL about Mesh products (suspicious?) so I'm tempted to apply for writing one.

    SPECS: Soon. Soon.
