First off, I just ordered a configurable dv4t series notebook direct from HP, and let me say, I'm very happy with the service. I placed the order yesterday, and while the build date says 8/28, it shipped over an hour ago. (wth?)
Right now, I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 (I got it 2 years ago) with an Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 card. I like it performance, and wanted to get another Nvidia one on the new notebook, but to upgrade to it would have cost $150. I'm a student, so every dollar counts (literally. will be over my head in student loans.) I decided to stick with the Intel GMA 4500MHD it came with. I haven't heard many good things about it, and am wondering how it compares to my graphics card now even though it's way newer. Thanks (and sorry for the long post)

It is better than the Go 6150, even though the intel chip is 2 years newer, is not that much better. It is definitely an upgrade though.
Considering the choice of the cards I don't think you are a gamer so what do you intend to do that you care about its performance?
Maybe that will answer your question better. -
It will play movies, and be able to run The Sims 3 decently ( since your a woman I assume you are willing to play this game on this integrated GPU ) Go 6150 is very old in todays standards and the GMA 4500MHD can render DX 10.0 graphic features as far as I recon ( the fact that this capability doesn't matter, because the 4500MHD is too weak is an another story
)

Why is everyone thinking only about performance?
Although the Intel GMA will likely deliver better performance, it won't deliver in terms of compatibility. Many games that the Intel chip can actually handle simply refuse to run. I would recommend saving your money and keeping the less powerful but more reliable Nvidia card. -
She stated that every dollar counts for her so pushing her into buying something she won't be using isn't really good -
Well, the Intel GMA 4500MHD as 'nklive' stated is newer and better, but I wouldn't expect huge leaps and bounds in performance difference.
Although ... if you wanted an Nvidia integrated gpu ... you might have gone with 9300 ... which is a more powerful solution compared to Intel ... or an ATI 4330 (I think).
Intel is quite weak in the integrated graphics department (for now) ... but yes, it will still be good upgrade compared to your old card, but as I said, do not expect huge performance difference.
Despite what numerous people say, you can game on integrated cards ... just in a low resolution and diminished detail as far as complex/newer games are concerned.
Anything older than 2, or close to 3 years in terms of games should run relatively decent though, but despite that, there may be some compatibility issues as others mentioned. -

No, I don't intend to game much on my new notebook. Lisu I would rebut your asummption of women and Sims, but I do have the Sims 2 (which runs decently on my current notebook with its old GeForce 6150), and might get the Sims 3
I didn't expect much of an improvement with the Intel, but only hoped that it performs as well as my card now.
Would the GeForce 6150 be compatible with the dv4t? If it is, any reason I should switch it from my old notebook to the new one?
Edit:
I am also running two version of Photoshop on this notebook, and plan to on the new one too. No problems? -
You can't switch the graphics between your two laptops.
-
So I figure it isn't like desktops and is attached to the motherboard or something? That sucks. Oh well.
-
Notebook's that can get they're GPU upgraded are mostly of top gamer league and are expensive ( overpriced )
If you got the 4500MHD it will serve you well for the rest of studies
Old Nvidia Geforce versus Intel 4500MHD?
