Apparently when Fable was released a few years ago on PC, there were several problems with it crashing randomly during startup, with an error with fable.exe.
Several problems were fixed with compatibility problems, however, it goes without saying that hardware is completely different now.
Can anyone make any suggestions on how I can get into the game with my specs? Or point me in the right direction?
Thanks for pulling out the old knowledge!

I may be just out of luck on this one...but does anyone know the answer?

I've never had any problems with Fable on my computer with Pentium 4 / Intel GMA or my computer with Duo Core / Radeon 1400, I'm sure it shouldn't have a problem on the Vostro either...

My little brother just picked up Fable and he played through it a few times now without any hand ups....
On a side note, it is a great game! Check prices as www.gogamer.com
Sometimes they have really awesome deals on older games. -

^^Fable's one of the games with the best storyline. It's only fault is that it's way too easy to beat.

sorry, what exactly you want to know?
if it's about the crash, I played it patched some months ago, worked fine...
about the graphics, it'll play on high, no slowdown or anything like that. -
Do you mean the Lost Chapters? I thought the original Fable was never released on PC??

Well whats not compatible? That might be a good place to start.
Looking at your specs just tell me that you should be able to play it with no problems. Is it just crashing at startup? What is the critical error message? Do you get a message? Need more info.
BTW, yeah this game was really fun. -
The error is simply that it says fable.exe has encountered an error and needs to close.
Anything specific would be great -

after it showed the intro cuts of "lionhead" and "microsoft games" and the normal movie cut before the menu

Well, one major cause of problems with Fable are sound cards. Make sure you have the most up to date sound card driver. Also read the stuff on this thread:

I will check that stuff out...I don't believe I have a creative labs card...i think it is SigmaTel (which I have never heard of...) whatever the stock dell one is.
I will try the running under windows 2000 compatibility though...havent tried that yet, and it is certainly worth a shot
any other pointers would be appreciated! thanks again -
This is the original Fable: http://www.abandonia.com/games/en/631/Fable.htm
You need the DosBox to play it.
Sorry, I had to.. Yeah, I'm an old fart. -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
I wonder if the game suffers from the windows firewall problem that plagued black and white?
-
Any suggestions on how I can find that out?
I ran it again in compatibility for windows 2000 and the same thing happened. Here are the error numbers...
AppName: fable.exe AppVer: 25.7.13.149 ModName: fable.exe
ModVer: 25.7.13.149 Offset: 005fa463
