Hey guys, I'm looking for some suggestions.
Me and some friends are doing these random oldschool LAN parties now and then and we were playing Urban Terror, Carmageddon 2 and NFS Underground 1. So yeah, old games.
We were also thinking of Destruction Derby, Revolt, SuperBikes 2001 and some kind of MicroMachines game..
What other really cool games are there around that we can play? We're not looking for HL2/Crysis kind of shooters or anything like that. Mostly old games.
Cheers!![]()

How old? DOS game old? You could check out One Must Fall 2097. If not quite that old, How about Doom 95 or something?
-
Well not THAT old. Think of it this way, the worst GPU we have in our group is the Intel GMA 950. So something that'll run on that...
Oh and something that would be fun to play in 4 players... -
starcraft. cs1.6. halo1.
-
starcraft lan is amazing.
melee or coop with 4 players is a blast. -
For CS 1.6 you must have practice, otherwise dont play it!
-
Thanks, we played Urban Terror as opposed to Counter Strike.
And we're not that big strategy fans... -

Many of the free linux games are also available for Win machines. Check them out, lots of fun to be had there.
OH YEAH, almost forgot, they're FREE FREE FREE too!!! -
I gotta reccomend D00M 2 , so much fun with friends.
-
Definitely CS1.6 and WarcraftIII w/ DoTA. Too bad my CS1.6 skills have rusted by now...
-
raven shield, but if you want the ultimate FPS 4 person shooter then break out the n64 and throw some golden eye on a big screen!
that is the most fun I have ever had with any game...PC and console. =) -
counter strike, destruction derby 2, worms 2, half-life deathmatch with all those crazy charcter skins was funny stuff!
-
-
Destruction Derby 2 and worms sound great.
Does Worms 2 have multiplayer/LAN or just seat-swap?
Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep'em coming -
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude it has been a while since I played worms 2! The CD ROM is miles away from me...but I remember there was a multiplayer over LAN option...I'm 95% sure.
-
GTA 1 also a laugh from what I remember, but it would be hard to get into I imagine if you haven't played that birds eye view for a while.
-
Command & Conquer and C&C: Red Alert.... since its free at EA now.
-
Dude. One word. Starcraft.

Original Unreal Tournament, I actually just got it and am playing it for the first time and I am very impressed! Also if you want a free racing game you could try TrackMania Nations Forever is fun.

Warcraft 3

Anyone remember the game "Deathtank" on Sega Saturn? It was a hidden game on the Duke Nukem 3D disc that only showed up if you had another game made by the same company saved on the hd (I had Quake). You could play up to 7 players at once, and it was the most fun party game ever IMO. I used to play it a lot with people in college until somebody stole my saturn and all of my controllers, which really pisses me off because you can't find deals on that stuff anymore. I had picked up a multitap and 7 brand new saturn controllers ( those fat round 6-button controllers with triggers and an analog stick ) just for that game at EB when they were getting rid of them for $.99 a piece about 10 years ago. I've been planning to find the stuff and buy it all over again, but know that sadly I will have to pay more for stuff that's probably not going to be in new condition like my hardware was.

REVOLT IS AWESOME! Plus, it's available for free now that it's vaporware
-
Starcraft, Trackmania, and I had a whole lot of fun playing Quake 2.
-
Doom 2 is awesome, and even if you're not into FPS's you'll still have a blast (pun intended) because of the hyper-fast action.
Also, Diablo II:LOD is good to play on TCP-IP, if you trust the dudes enough to install your own CD KEY on their computers and agree as a group not to use Battle.net. Fun times, the 8-player rampage. -
-
original UT is definitely fun... especially since they did not do CD-Keys and have many many fun mods.
-
Quake 3 is really fun for LAN parties. I've beaten Diablo I/II many a times as well with friends.

Ghost Recon, Worms, and Giants: Citizen Kabuto

Descent 2 - 'nuf said!
-
-
starsiege tribes is still going strong. i don't think vista will work with it.
-
Another vote for Unreal Tournament...ridiculously fun...
And I think Descent, Descent 2 or Freespace (if you can find enough copies of the latter two) are excellent choices...the Descent games always tended to make me queasy when playing multiplayer (never sit still, always moving)... -
You can get tribes to run on vista quite easily. There is a patch : http://www.tribalwar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=480461
However... I would definately check this out, because tribes 2 is also for free now, and playable again - I have yet to try myself after the masterservers went down and you couldnt play anymore. http://www.tribesnext.com/info -
ut99 with instagib!
-
I dunno if it works over LAN, but Age of Empires 2.
-
AoE 2 does indeed work over LAN, rather a fun LAN game actually.
I would also say Alien vs. Predator 2 is a pretty fun game to play with friends, especially teams of predators vs. aliens.
Worms 2, definitely a good option. I've heard it has a few issues installing with XP, and I'm not sure about Vista, but if it works, then I highly recommend it.
Empire Earth is pretty good. I'd say with AoE 2 that's my strongest LAN recommendation.
GTA 1 or 2 is also pretty fun. I believe last I checked GTA 1 is now free shareware, not sure about 2 though... -
Oh, and Battlezone 2, that game is AWESOME. Combines a tank warfare type of game with an RTS with a FPS. And does it well...
-
Oh yeah, battlezone 2, how could I forget!?
Isn't the original Battlezone open source now?

Sorry if it isn't. -
Worms Armageddon however does works, after a patch.
