On some X1600's, Omega Drivers are causing BSOD's. I happened to me, I reverted to stock drivers, no problem now.

Try the Catalyst Mobility 6.6, they support the Radeon X1000 series.

Keep in mind that the plain Catalyst drivers only work with desktops; the Catalyst Mobility drivers are for laptops. Get them at www.driverheaven.net.

    Chaz--
I have a MSI 1039 with Windows XP Pro SP2 and a Raedon Mobility X1600 256mb. I am using the stock catalyst drivers and have a ATI catalyst control icon on my desktop in which i can just click to find upgrades.

    when i am here

    https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27

do i want windows xp drivers and software
    or
windows xp pro x64 edition drivers and software?

Windows XP Pro x64 is the '64-bit' version of Windows XP. Unless you special ordered your notebook with that, select the Windows XP Drivers and Software. I am not sure if your notebook is 'qualified' to use them; ATI makes you go through an verification process to make sure your notebook is on the 'supported' list. It really has nothing to do with whether or not your notebook can use the drivers, but rather a restriction of the manufacturers, where they want you to use their own drivers (which are, for the most part, terribly outdated).

So..I recommend going to www.driverheaven.net and getting the Catalyst Mobility drivers from them.

Sometimes though if you try to download the Catalyst Mobility drivers off the ATI site, you have to download this program to verify that they will work, it will only let you download if in fact it does. That is why I cannot use the Catalyst ones off the ATI site, but in fact have to use the ones provided by Intel. :)

chaz the version of the acer 5672 I have was updated (bios and software) in june of this year as well as a x1600 vs. x1400. Now I checked the ccc is the second oldest and the driver is from may I think. Now I dont know how much the new 6.6 will do for me, but Ill try the driverheaven.net to see if it will install. I still think going to 2gb of ram and a 2.0 core duo will help the most, but if I can do a free driver update and score a few more marks then Im all for it.

But I wont go back to an omega driver as that shot my score to hell.
