Not sure if this has been said, but as I can't find a thread on it at the moment, I decided to post.

Omega Drivers ( http://www.omegadrivers.net) based on the ATI Catalyst 6.3 Drivers are available to download.

I've got to say it again. After countless years of using modified drivers and comparing them to their original counterparts I must say performance/IQ ratio, you've gotta stick with the originals.

The things that this guy messes with just reduce IQ and he doesn't really do much for you.

If you download rivatuner you can do the same stuff this guy is doing.

Performance and image quality is best with the original drivers.

I believe this and will stick to it.

    Cheers,
    Mike

i will agree, the stock drivers usually work best for me..the tweaks that are available, dont usually have any benefits in my case..i usually end up with more problems then when i started, until i get the stock drivers back.

Shampoo, AKA Mike--what drivers do you use (6.2, 6.3..etc..) and what do you use for O/C, profiles...TYIA

EDIT--Shampoo, just saw your posts in the Driver thread.. :)

I stay with the stock ATI Mobility Catalyst drivers and use ATI Tray. I don't install CCC. For me, the reason I use the stock drivers from ATI is because they are stable and I have never had any problems with PowerPlay using them, unlike the Omegas.

Yeup just like ChazMan stated, I use the Radeon Catalyst drivers, not the mobility.

For those who are afraid to use the DHmodtool3 to mod the drivers for use on mobile GPUs, fear not, all it does is add some lines to the inf or ini file so that it recognizes your mobile GPU.

Another thing that lets you know everything is okay is when it is installed, your GPU is identified as a mobile product and it installs powerplay with the drivers.

PBcustom I'm using the 6.2's right now because I'm having problems with powerplay in 6.3. I've tried installing the 6.3s several times and just gave up haha.

I can't mess with my laptop right now though, she's in the shop, AGAIN, this is the 3rd time. This time I'll hopefully have every problem sorted out. I'm mainly sending it in because of the creaking palmrest and the scratches they put on it when I had it in last, those bastardos.

    wish me luck,
    Mike

If you search on driverheaven.net, it'll tell you where to find links to just the driver, without CCC.

I used to use Omegas. The 5.xx based versions seemed better than the stock ATI counterparts for my machine, for performance. However, with the 5.13's and the more recent 6.x's, the regular Mobility Catalysts have been faster for me.

i dislike ATI tray tools, since it freezes my laptop..what i am trying to do, is install CCC so i can set the GPU options etc (without the driver, since it is already installed).
