    Once i recieve the laptop...

    Should i reformat the whole harddrive and get rid of bloatware and the like?


    What driver should i get from laptop video 2 go for the 7900gs?
    OS is media center 05
    please don't say latest. A number would be nice cause that site confuses me.

    Should i also use the link to the microsoft dual core fix or do dells not have this problem?

    It's up to you wether you want to format or not...you can also uninstall them if you like :cool: . (Uninstall the Norton trial * one of the most annoying bloatware.)
    Check Control Panel -> Add/Remove Program. Make sure show updates is checked, check if kb896256 is installed.

    Thanks, but which helps performance more? Does a reformatted drive provide an all around better experience?

    Yeap it does, since it's a fresh copy. You can also control what programs and utilities you install there (i'm assuming that the drivers/utilities/programs are on a seperate disk from Dell)

    Yeah, you should do a reformat. Even after un-installing what you don't want alot of programs will leave empty folders, configuration files, registry keys, and whatever customized dll's that they happened to decide they need.

    As far as video drivers go, I'd recommend getting the 93.71's and then getting the hacked .inf to allow installation onto the laptop cards. In general this is a good rule if you don't know which version to get. 93.71 is nvidia's latest non-beta set for desktops, so it's probably going to work well for the laptops, too.
