A few questions on online gaming.
Does battlefield 2 still have active servers.
How do I set up online gaming.
How much does online gaming cost.

Battlefield 2 still has many active servers.
Many PC games have the multiplayer build into the game so there is nothing to set up. You might just need to make sure you are patched up to date with whatever game your playing. Generally all you do is select Multiplayer from the main menu and most likely click the Refresh list button. This will get you your list of servers which you just find a good ping and join the game.
Some newer games such as MW2 it will find the game for you or match you to the best ping automatically.
These are all free and come with the game. Other games such as World of Warcraft you do have to pay a monthly fee. I don't play these so maybe someone else could answer that for you. -

So would Modern Warfare ( the original be a free multiplayer?) because I noticed on steam they were having a mw2 free weekend.
-
Free weekend means you get to play the game without buying it. As long as you own the game, you don't have to pay anything extra for multiplayer, unless it's an MMO.

Sweet. I can play shooters online now. I've Aleta steered clear cause I thought there were fees. Gonna get my feet wet with battlefield 2. Picked it up for ten bucks at best buy.

BF2 is my favorite multiplayer FPS, even after almost 5 years since release, and plenty of people still play the game. There are also quite a few mods available, my favorites being the AIX and Forgotten Hope 2. Make sure to patch the game like said before hand by another user. Latest patch is 1.5, and for easiest downloading experience, go to filefront.com. Get the 1.41 patch first as you'll need it before patching to 1.5, then get the 1.5 patch.

Ok. I'll probably do that after school tomorrow. Right now I am in single player getting a feel for it.

It's very realistic for an FPS if you ever played one before. Make sure to practice burst firing especially with the machine guns, which pretty much are inaccurate unless you go prone with them. Other guns are pretty accurate with controlled single shots when standing, but much more accurate with crouching and prone. Use your cover but never stay in one place for more than a couple seconds unless reloading. Learn to think and move quickly. Also using the bots will give you a chance to practice working together. BF2 rewards players that do support actions like reviving and passing out medic supplies, as well as handing out ammunition and repairing vehicles. Pretty much the Supply and Medic classes present the best ways to rack up your score. Hell, reviving a teammate is worth as much as a kill (2 points).

BC2 is more streamlined than BF2, not necessarily dumbed down, it's really a crossover between COD and BF, BC2 is the illegitimate child between the two series if you will (what, can't say bast*** in forums?)
BC2 - Smaller scale maps compare to BF2, noticeably player size, 32-player max limit in Rush Mode, vs BF2's 64-player. Nevertheless, the gameplay is still very intense if you don't camp the whole time.
You can unlock tons weapons for each of the four classes, you can rank up much much faster than in BF2.
Shooting mechanics feel smoother, especially in Hardcore mode, you can actually kill someone at a very long distance with a sniper rifle this time around (maybe I just suck at sniping in BF2).
There's no prone, crouch is not togglable, no more radio calls menu - everything is replaced by one context sensitive key (Q) to spot, request pickup, ammo, etc.
No more commander/squad leader, if you join a squad in BC2, you can respawn on any of your squad mate vs. just the squad leader in BF2.
In BC2, you can throw grenade or knife someone with a press of button/mouse, no need to select them first in weapons menu like in BF2.
Bottom line, it's a fun game and a nice iteration of the BF series, but this is no BF3. -

It sounds like bc2 is for someone look for fast dimple game play where u don't micro manage do to speak.
-
Yes, that's a fair assessment, except that it's possibly more reliant on micro and less on macro. When you play games like CoD and BC2, it comes down to small-scale simplified "I shoot you" tactics, whereas BF2 is a large battlespace both physically and logically and requires both good FPS skills but also resource management and awareness on a global scale.
Personally I'd say save yourself the money and stick with BF2, it outshines BC2 in depth of gameplay and will continue to most games until BF3 (assuming DICE does't drop the ball).
*Note: the above opinion was expressed with personal bias as the writer would never touch a dumbed-down console game like BC2. -

It really is in many ways CoD meets BF (Bad Company 2 that is), but I still can enjoy it. I prefer BF2 for it's better realism in terms of actual gameplay, much more in depth teamwork and rewarding for it, as well as larger overall scope of battle. Honestly all I really want in BF3 is BF2 basically with the Frostbite Engine with 128 player support. That would make me a happy gamer.

talking about Battlefield and what not, i still play Battlefield 1942. that game is 8-9 years old i think. there is still plenty of players and servers still playing it. i can even play it on a HP 2510p with a X3100 gpu and 1.33 core 2 cpu on battery power for around 5-6 hours non stop. after all these years the game just does not die. they is alot less players then before but still plenty around to play.

I think sniping in BF2 is useless, ppl snipe u way better with an AK47 than u can snipe them with a real sniper with a scope. That is pretty lame, and all the grenade throwing makes the servers with no veichels bad, but if u play with veichels the airplanes will kill u before u even can spawn... So its pretty hardcore...

I like sniping, though I rarely use that class since other classes are much better for gaining points. The sniping does feel pretty useful to me though, it just takes alot of skill like in real life, especially if you're playing Chinese or MEC where you have the semi-auto sniper rifles available.

Just finished my first online multiplayer game. That was absolutly B-E-A-UTIFUL!

Congrats. Sometimes with BF2 since the userbase are all vets, you can have a really good game or one in which you are helplessly stomped on. Glad to hear your first was the former. What you should do now is establish a few regular servers you like (I suggest Texas Team Players) with good players/squads and importantly, good ping (<32 is optimal, <80 is good, <150 is ok, >200 is to be avoided).
-
BF2 FTW! I like BC2, but it still doesn't compare with BF2. I can see how in another 30 hours or so I'll probably grow tired of BC2 and go back to good ol' BF2 where I have over 600 hours logged.
-
BF2 is a spamfest of radio messages, grenades and airplane bombs
-
And yet it's still the best battlesim out there, doesn't say much for the competition.
