Saw this on steam for $4.50 or so and was wondering if it was worth downloading and playing. Anyone know if this game is good?

Better off going for ArmA 2 if your nastalgic for OFP. OFP2 is a mess of a game.

Just Remember that ARMA 2 has to have a monster machine to run it. Dont bother if you dont have quad core (true quad not dual core with extra threads), and hd4850 or better. The game is outstanding and the graphics are amazing. It just takes a serious machine to play. Operation Flashpoint 2 dragon rising is a squad game. It's not bad, just linear. Where as ARMA2 is more open. Dragon Rising can be played on low to mid grade machines.
it's worth 5 bucks for sure. I have had it since launch. It's not ground breaking but fun.
Best wishes,

Operation Flashpoint Dragon sinking was one of the worst games I have ever played. Even if they were giving it away, I wouldn't waste my time on it. The only way to possibly enjoy it is to be in complete denial.

I will repeat, made for console stinker, avoid whenever possible. Get ArmA, ArmA 2 or better yet Operation Flashpoint and the add-ons. I bought it at release, which was an embarrassment at $4.50 still a rip-off, better off taking your $4.50 and dropping down the nearest sewer drain, you will get the same feeling of loss and boredom.

I thought o.f.d.r. 2 was very good even though it ran like crap on my computer. Good game though

I can only go by after playing the first mission so far. It's pretty good. Runs good on the system in my sig.
Graphics look good with high settings.
Gameplay: A lot more tactical than say cod games and bc games.
Radial command system is easy to get the hang of to give orders to your squad.
Missions are long because maps are pretty big and you have to move tactically to survive.
Major Gripes: Can't change the FOV. Haven't tried multiplayer yet so can't comment. Overall this game has a lot of potential and is quite good if you like tactical type game play. Don't expect a lot of eye candy and fancy explosions which is probably the main reason why most wouldn't play this game, along with the fact that it isn't the fast paced "I gotta have it now" type of game play.
I think it was well worth $4.50...which is about the cost of a gallon of diesel fuel. -
no, console garbage (although $4.50 is approaching its real worth).
Get the real OPFP, ArmA II is on sale today, -50%, $19.99, package deal including Arrowhead is $49,99 -
I got it and I like it. The defending objectives are pretty hard though.
This is definitely one of those games where you have to like the genre to be able to enjoy. No run-and-gunners need apply.
I would like ArmA II...if it would run more than 20 FPS. I have a decent machine (9800m GS, P8400) and it's no where close to running smoothly. Compared to OPFP: DR, which runs at 30-40 FPS constant, there's no contest. -
i'll wait for the arma 2 $4.50 sale.
-
Agree with ArmaII. I can JUST play it on my machine on low settings but experiencing a 3 helicopter collision (by accident) transporting about 16 of us at night is worth it. Lit up the skies. Definitely worth $5!

I tried the Arma 2 demo, and the graphics look terrible. The player models aren't that good either. Seems less refined than flashpoint 2. The character voices in Arma 2 are also annoying as well. I think Flashpoint 2 is the better game and better deal. $4.50 for flashpoint 2 versus 19.99 for Arma 2.
-
The Arma 2 Demo is several patches behind so much less optimised and I have never heard anyone say the graphics look terrible, not unless you were forced to have the lowest resolution and settings anyway.
-
I think the arma 2 demo was horrible, and the graphics did look terrible. Flashpoint looks really good IMO. Still enjoying the game. The night missions when your spec ops...equipped with silencers, thermal, and IR is sweet. It's nice that you can control having the IR on or off. It's these details that I appreciate and wish games like BF series or COD series would adopt.

For a while I actually enjoyed the Flashpoint 2 game until I realised that the only reason why I enjoyed it was because I was really trying to convince myself that I did not waste my money.
When the enemy spots you behind cover one hundred miles away at night, your troops stand up in full view during fire fights and you see dead bodies disappearing before your eyes due to console limitations you should start asking yourself questions. -
I didn't like the game.. tried it and really wasn't my cup of tea.. graphics were also too demanding so i needed to turn it down... gameplay wise , it was different... and i always ran out of ammo.. just didn't like it.
