Anyone here planning on getting the new operations flashpoint, Dragon Rising?
It says it supports quad core. I wonder how much faster it will run on a quad than a dual?
Has anyone had a change to play any of the betas? If so what was the performance like?
Anyone going to buy console instead of pc?
The early reviews says the graphics are not the greatest. However, I think gameplay is more important than graphics... How does the AI act, what weapons are available, how dynamic is the game. I hate games that are always the same "static" each time.
I am really interested in this game. I just hope it plays well...
Best wishes,
StevenX

I am a huge fan of the first OFP, used to play it almost exclusively for about a year, and was one hell of a chopper pilot back in the day. Tho im a bit rusty now, and am trying to use Arma II to get back into shape.
-
Hopefully this game is more optimised than Arma 2 which struggled on even the most powerful systems. I think you will only see a significant increase in performance if the game is designed with Quad in mind as opposed to merely scaling to more than 2 Cores.
-
I have the game as a review copy and have played it quite a lot now. It´s a very fun game and the AI is not stupid at all. The AI is pretty good, flanking you and so on.
Graphics wise I max it out on my XPS M1730 in sig at 1920x1200 with fps ranging from 40-55+ fps. Since it uses the same engine as Grid used I use Grid´s SLI profile which worked really great.
I´ll see if I can throw up any screenshots, though I am not allowed yet. I will also post a youtube vid of it when I am allowed to do it.
Although screenshots already exists on OPF2´s homepage anyway.
The game is very well optimized I must say, far better than Arma 2 for sure. -

Maybe I will try this game to hold me off untill MW2 comes in the round. Also where do you get that SLI profile ?
-
I think the question is what performance do you get without SLI?
A poorly optimised game that is GPU intensive could still get good results with an SLI capable rig. -
I will give non SLI mode a try and see what kind of FPS I get.
-
yep, cant wait for dis game.
Edit: So is there any kind of extras that you can get for preorder? -
im just getting back into gaming again after a long hiatus (mostly due to not having the hardware to game good) and I am hearing a lot of good things about this game.
-
Yea, I'm damn excited about this game. I was going to buy it for the PC, but my friend pushed me into buying a PS3, cause he wasn't going to buy a Xbox360, so I guess I'll be getting it for the console. I might end up buying the game on the PC later on, depending if it can keep up with Project Reality.

its spelled anticipation

Allright ran the game with SLI disabled and got around 30 fps maxed out 1920x1200.
-
Not bad, not bad at all.

Yes definitely LaptopNut. Here is some pictures I took for this game site:
http://www.gamereactor.se/nyheter/19626/Operation+Flashpoint+2-bilder/
Yes SLI while it did not double performance it still boosted it with around 20 fps. Yes I agree SLI is a nice feature, while it doesn´t give a huge boost in every game it still boosts most games out there for sure. SLI support is better today than it were before. However check out those 10 screens on that swedish webpage. -
CVG gave 9/10 to OFP : DR. Pretty good score but to be honest I wasn't convinced by the review. I didn't like the fact that it was being compared to ArmA II in many points (I would have prefered a comparison to COD since most of the people have played it).
Nevertheless, we are going to see when the game is released and there are going to be people playing online. If it is fun then it will be a success but it has to give something different to COD because in the end it will be compared to COD. -
It is fun and more fun than both Arma 2 and Cod.
-
Is it still a military simulation like the original Operation Flashpoint was ?
-
ahhh no demo yet!
-
www.flashpointgame.com will let you try to unlock secret missions with different tests.
try it, youll see it on the left hand side that says "unlock missions" -
-
Their is no dedicated server support for Multiplayer -- this will problem kill the multiplayer aspect of the game.

please let us know.. how did you get it today? Steam? No stores in Texas have it yet. Status is "shipping"...
Thanks,

Some areas have this game available on Steam already but I am not buying until I know how this runs. After Arma 2's poorly optimised code, I am even more cautious.

LaptopNut, I hear you on ARMA2. I had to OC a bit and it runs ok. Not great but ok. 1900x1200 on m17 with xfire. How did ARMA2 run on your setup?
I may just buy flashpoint on 360.. I can't decide yet. The community on 360 is so "run and shoot" that it will not be very robust.

Anyway, I got my copy. The game is optimized well and everything is maxed out from 1920X1200,everything high and 4x AA.
Check out the screenshots!
Update:
Omg!I got like 40-55 FPS but my GPU temp reached 88 degrees with 186 whql drivers.
-
I have to say I am very surprised. I just tested out this game on my laptop at 1680 X 1050 Texture Quality High, all other settings Medium, AF 4x, AA disabled, Vsync Disabled and I am getting from 85-112 fps (OGL not D3D). The graphics look great. So basically it looks a bit like Arma 2 but instead of me getting 29 fps, i'm getting 100
I will test higher settings later and provide more feedback. By the way, some places have quite a bit of money of this one up to 50% (Amazon).
EDIT: All high setting my frame rate is about 75-80 fps. -
-
Runs good for me, 60 FPS, all settings high apart from shadows and aliasing, strange though, even though it's 60 fps, it's not as smooth as other games at 60 FPS :/ such as CoD, 60 fps runs really smooth, if i look at the floor, it goes up to 90 fps and then it's smoooooth, gonna overclock and see what i get then.
Strangely, Why don't Codemasters use CD keys for there games? This game, Racedriver Grid etc... -
here a couple of screenies i am running
MAx settings 4 x AA at 1920x1080 on my lappie
All good

But one thing, when you are in the first level and you run like .5 km and the ocean, it looks like crap. No water movement in ocean. From my recommendations and few hours of gameplay, better save money for other title. I am not satistied at all.
-
i think there are many worse games out there
and for what i paid its a bargin -
how well will it run on my laptop and desktop

$40?
@pman - what computer are you using? -
Is it just me or are the textures for the gun models just horrendous looking?
-
Behold, i present to you: the modding community.
Those who were lucky enough to play the original operation flashpoint trio will know exactly what i mean by that.
On a different note though - interesting command interface, good atmosphere, very decent graphics, and its $40 on steam so i couldnt resist.
Runs at max without AA and VSync on my lappie with Dox drivers. I dont know the framerate but everything was silky smooth. -
$40 now on Steam? Wasn't it $50 for pre-order? I'm tempted because I loved the original Operation Flashpoint as much as I do Battlefield 2. But it sounds like it just isn't the same. Although looks and sounds fun.
-
Just some bonuses for those who have the game.
Enjoy! -

Thanks for the codes!!!! I just installed it and played tonight for an hour. I have an m17 with p8600, 3870 xfire. I got 35-40 fps @1900x1200, all settings high, shadows 1024, af 8 aa 2. The game looks great in my opinion. The game play is fun. I will say that I have played ARMA and ARMA2 it this plays a lot smoother on my rig. No comparison. The gameplay is great. I dont know what all the complaining about on the codemasters forum. I hope as people start creating missions with the editor that they can create dynamic missions that change each time. More weapons, etc... I like it... If you like COD or any run and shoot then you probably wont like it much. If you like a game that makes you feel like you are there, strategic firefights and checkpoints I think you may like it. Best Wishes, Stevenx

Never played Arma, Arma2, or the first Flashpoint but plan to get this one because it has good reviews and supports 3 monitors.
Think its worth it for me to go play any of those other 3 games or just stick with this one since is the newest?
I have a lot on my agenda for today but I'll try to get a few screenshots of the game up when I play it. But right now I am trying to focus on batman arkham asylum. -
