I picked it up, seems ok, feels a little consolized. Actually prefer ArmA II a little more, but still a good game.

Grabbed a few pics myself, the settings are all at max 1920 X 1080 resolution. The system is a Sager NP9850. The lowest I have seen FPS is a drop to 50.

All settings max? lol I didnt really see any settings. V sync and AA/AF I think is all I saw.
I'll get more 5760x1200 shots soon as I figure out how to inverse the y-axis for aiming I cant stand playing with it like it is stock.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -

I still need to invert the axis, I can probably do that in a config file manually if the game doesnt have an option for it. -

Looks like it will get boring quick. I'll wait for MW2.

This game boasts gritty realism yet I see many people in the official forums complaining that the enemy bodies disappear after 30 seconds along with their weapons. Some one else said they noticed an enemies dead body vanish before his eyes lol. I haven't killed enough enemies to notice this yet, has anyone else noticed this?
Another realistic thing I noticed was bullet proof cars, how cool is that?
I also noticed that the same bullet proof cars can be repaired by a team member who appears to be using his gun to make a spanner noise to fix the car. Amasing.
Also notice that when you have to destroy certain targets, you can't decide to use a grenade, you have to use what they expect you to use i.e a detonator. I noticed that tossing grenades at a placement didn't even leave a mark. -
I am getting a real console feel out of this game.
-
I killed a bunch of enemies and then when I finally walked to that location I found no bodies at all. (not enough ammo for my stolen weapons!!
)
I read in the official forums someone said that apparently that's the way the game engine works and at the moment the body limits in a level are too low or something. Hopefully they'll fix that in a patch.
I'm at level 5 or 6 now and I'm loving it.Not to mention 4 player coop is really fun.
-
I think this game takes quite a while to get into. I thought it was boring but just kept on anyway and the more I played, the more interesting and atmospheric it became. I felt that I just didn't know what was lurking around corners, what enemy could be hiding camouflaged in the bushes etc. I recommend you really give this game some time to get into before you decide about it.
Hopefully they will release a patch to fix the disappearing bodies ''feature'' -

I liked the gameplay but was unhappy with the graphics. Its really classic.

Can some one help me with the United we stand level (taken the beach...killed the mortar spotters now in the village after killing the AA teams)
I just can't defend the village I've tried bloody alsorts and I just keep getting over run
PLease help
Oh and they seriously need to sort out the MP its really reallybad -
it doesn't matter I've done it now
Seems that the AI wasn't doing what it was suppose to do.....IE my support HELI wasn't erm supporting -
An example just now, I have told my team to fire at will and we are under attack from a distant gunner. What do they do?
They are all standing up, getting hit and still standing in the same place calling for a medic each time they get hit instead of taking cover. This gritty realism is so good when my team don't even take cover when they are under attack without me telling them to
The AI in Halo puts this game to shame. -
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
I agree. The AI needs some help sometimes. You shouldn,t have to tell a soldier to duck behind a pillar or tree when anenmy fire is blazing by your head. gets on my nerves too....This game runs so much smoother than arma2.
best wishes, stevenx -
lol its downloading as i speak...hopefully play it by night's end...

Just picked this up, haven't played it yet, any tips?

As a veteran Operation Flashpoint player from years past, I finally gave this game a shot. It definitely has the feel of Operation Flashpoint, even moreso than ArmA I or II, even though those were made by the same team that did the original Operation Flashpoint.
While I am not too fond of the "command wheel" which is definitely from consoles, it isn't too bad. Takes some getting used to.
Spotting enemies is just about as difficult, if not moreso than the original. I only played the first level and started the second, but so far I like it.
I don't know if i'll have the same feeling that I did with the original OpFlash though. I replayed so many of those missions, trying different tactics, running around the island. It was great fun.
Performance-wise, it definitely is a well optimized engine, and looks decent too. It doesn't look 2010 or anything, but still is remarkable. -
I noticed how cheap Arma was (£5) so tried this and so far, I prefer it much more than Operation Flashpoint - Dragon Rising. It has a more gritty feeling to it in my opinion, the grass is actually moving and not static, I prefer the graphics and environment and I can actually see my enemies a little better. If you patch to 1.14 or higher, performance on high and native is pretty good so far and their are lots of mods too.
Take a look at Youtube to see gameplay, you will have to search Armed Assault to see those but Youtube does not do the graphics justice. -
hmm the gameplay is alrite, the game itself was kinda confusing. i liked how the guns fired and all but i couldnt even find out how to issue a artiliary fire from the "q" menu. so i just gave up, and went back to tf2...

Check your keyboard settings next time. For artillery press "right shift" instead.
w00t 888th post! -
I have uninstalled this one now. I am just glad I only paid £17.99 for it and not £30+. After further play it is very clear that this game was dumbed down and targeted at the console player before anything else. The fact that you can't even chose your team mates weapons before a mission is pathetic. Next time I will not believe the hype.
Check out this Youtube clip to see the realistic and ground breaking AI in Dragon Rising!

Another entry in the book of "Consoles will be the Death of All Gaming".
-
haha...jeez lucky i have a PC as well or i would be srsly offended...lol jk
ima try the game again 2morrow, i briefly looked over the control scheme, it was too much so i skimmed it. game isnt as bad as u put it. i mean so what if u cant choose ur teams weapons...they still kill enemies. only the textures of the game are lacking (consolized gfx). -
-
hahaha well its pretty good imo....way better than the ARMA2 demo i tried. that game was horrible imo.
-
I recommend Arma 1 with the ACE Mod and Operation Flashpoint GOTY with the ECP Mod. All of these mods are total conversions and even improve on the AI and many other problems in the game are fixed as well as environment, graphics, radio chatter etc.
-
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
I dont know what the ACE mod is but I can say that dynamic warefare was outstanding. There was another one too that was a large campaign on multiplayer that we played for hours and days when the game first came out. I like ARMA 1 a lot... Back to OFP DR it is great so far. Great environments... Can't believe a thread I started is like 9 pages long.. nice..
StevenX -
The ACE Mod (Arma) and ECP Mod (OFP) are great because they also improve the AI and not just the aesthetics.
-
Hmmm so i finished the campaign and didnt get to fly a helicopter, drive a tank, an apc, a plane, a boat, an AA vehicle or anything at all except for a bunch of stupid chineese 4x4s. the game's description boastd the fact that you get to be in the shoes of all types of foces, including the armored corps. sad...
-
I need to get that ECP mod. Operation Flashpoint is one of my all time favorite games.
Why is it that the mod community can enhance an existing game, make it great, but the actual developers go on to make crap sequels. I don't get it. Maybe they should learn a lesson or two from the people that actually enjoy playing the game an improve it on their own time. Don't fix what works well already, only improve and fix the issues. -
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
2 Weeks later and still playing flashpoint DR. Love it so far. I like that in heavy firefights the FPS stays solid... I am really looking forward to seeing some user created maps with dynamic missions. It would also be cool for someone to create a CCS style mission that people could play on it too.
Buying Borderlands for both 360 and pc.. got the 360 copy today. Game looks phenominal..."MAINSTREAMED BABY"! -
dont buy 2 version of the same game, thats just useless, why buy a pc version now?
-
*This post appears in HK-47-o-Vision
Irritated Query: A better question would be... Why buy the console version at all? -
I have just found that you can also load the popular VopSound Mod along with ACE which changes all of the default Arma sounds for the better.
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=3852
If anyone knows the sounds of the original Arma well and decide to try this mod, let me know if you notice any differences because I am new to Arma and have gone straight to the modded versions. -
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
I get two version because my wife games as well. She has a dell inspiron 1520 (time for an upgrade). So I will get both copies so we can play together on the 360, and I can play solo on the m17. I have played Borderlands for about an hour and it really is pretty neat so far. Can't wait to actually get out of the intro levels to the hard stuff.
Laptopnut, Do you ever get tired of hearing "all board 'deep deep' humvee".
That drove me nuts... Still love ARMA though. Just wish 2 was better.
Take Care,
StevenX -
I know what you mean about Arma 2 though. have you tried the vegetation tweak mod for that yet?
I just tried it and it has really increased the smoothness of my game and fps. I think performance and lack of optimisation are the main problems with Arma 2. -
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
I lowered the 3d value in Arma 2. Doesn't matter much really. The bottom line is that computers that come out 2 years from now will probably be able to play it with decent frame rates. ARMA 1 is 3 years old so that is why our machines play it well. My sarcism is that the guys in the czech republic that develop these games do it for computers that are not even out yet... Oh well... Good luck, StevenX
-
i might buy this game from a general interest in military sims, but its name holds no sway with me, i know who developed the original OpFlash that i love to this day, and I know that ArmaII is the real deal.
