Just bought it off Amazon UK for a couple of quid and was wondering what people who have played it thought of it and whether it's a good 2 quid spent?![]()

Sorry to say mate but that game is absolutely horrible from what I remeber lol
Graphics suck
Gameplay sucks
Story sucks
Its so horrible that its comical at times....and there is a lot of cursing in it too lol and it is always out of context, its juts **** you **** that all the time and the soldiers even hit each other...its retarded or I guess you may call it realistic if your the oppertunistic type -

Seconding the above post - the whole game is terrible. Hopefully you'll find some way to enjoy it though.
-
Lol that's incredible! The reviews on Amazon UK are entirely opposite to what you guys are saying!
Here's one example:
Vietcong is one hell of a game. For once and quite uniquely, the “enemy” have some character, you’re in their jungle territory, you hear them speak, you’re in their homeland, they care, they’re gonna get you before you get them. You’ll get up close instead of blindly shooting at anything that moves across the screen. All in all a little realism goes an awful long way in Vietcong.
What Vietcong has, that other more famous war time FPS fail to achieve, is atmosphere. This feels like a real war game and a real battle. There’s plenty of stealth as well as full on fire-fights. You have to think as well as push the trigger. There are some moments where you will be so immersed you’ll jump out of your skin as a Vietcong emerges from the jungle in front of you. There are moments where you’ll feel totally overwhelmed and vulnerable. Refreshingly you’ll not feel the script is rushing you on to the next scenario.
Vietcong is different and better than most war games because you are fully involved. You get the in between mission briefings animated, there are no cut aways to typed documents with mission overviews. You get to see the choppers getting you out once the mission is finished.
And for an all time, wonderful gaming experience the rescue of the American POW from the Vietcong camp is tough, stealthy, brilliantly realised and amazing to play.
There are one or two minor glitches but overall a great game that deserves a great deal more credit and great deal more gamers to play and savour. Rank it alongside Medal of Honour and Call of Duty when you want some quiet time mixed with trigger happy jungle trekking. It deserves its 18 rated badge for the language and often dodgy motivations, but at least Vietcong takes no prisoners in a straightforward and hard core Hollywood Platoon style romp. -
If I remember right vietcong was a really good game, there was another vietnam game that was horrible...maybe you got them mixed up?
-
lol they are all biased....as chaz said I hope too that you find a way to enjoy it, and if that means violating the disk in all sots of ways then so be it lol
-
Lol I'm confused here. I'm getting two completely different views, which one is the right one? The game I've bought is called Vietcong, that's it.
-
The game is absolutely brilliant, one of the best FPS games I have ever played in my life. The atmosphere is second to none and far better then any other war themed FPS, it feels like you're playing the movie Platoon.
Graphics were just OK, but the sound and atmosphere more then make up for it. Vietcong 2 is also quite good, and is brilliant in LAN Co-Op.
It sold very well and got good reviews from the likes of Gamespot and IGN, so I really think you guys must be thinking of a different game. -
i remember when vietcong came out it was something like nowadays crysis - very demanding. i hope i got the name right lol
-
Sounds good Havok! And yeah I've read that it was pretty demanding BiG
just realised something funadmentally wrong though with the game. It won't work on Vista or at least that's what I read on the AusCong (an Australian Vietcong fansite) forums and a couple of others so I'm stuffed seeing as my new laptop which is arriving tomorrow has Vista Home Premium which I will be using.
-
I remember playing this game and beating the single player campaign. I don't complete many games so this might tell you something.
Also, Illusion Softworks developed this game and is one of my favorite game developers. They made great games like Mafia and the hidden and dangerous series. -
It does but I'm shafted because it won't run on Vista. Apparently it can't detect DirectX because the files for DX10 are named differently or something.
-
Just noticed you haven't got your laptop yet so you can't try it. -
I know but why would them guys lie lol.
-
I wish I still had my copy. I would try it real quick. Double damn.
-
Damn indeed. I'll have to make do with Far Cry which I'm sure I will
-
Indeed you will. There are several mods for Far cry available to extent its life.
-
After a little research, I came across this recommendation.

It seems the problem is Vietcong is looking at DX10 and is like WTF is this and will not work. This gets rid of all existences of DX and then a fresh copy of DX9 only is loaded. -
I'm not willing to remove DirectX because I don't want to mess around with my install of Vista. I want to keep it clean and original and I'll be playing DX10 games anyway so I don't want to remove DX10. I'll just have to bite the bullet and accept it won't work.
-
Love the multiplayer. SP, not so much.
-
to OP, its £ 2 so I doubt it really matters if the game is going to be good or bad lol
-
Fair point
-
Trust me it's good, Blackbird and Chaz saying it's terrible is like saying Crysis is rubbish - a valid opinion but totally against common opinion.
-
Lol well I've refunded it on Amazon because it won't work on Vista. So what game shall I get which will cost under £5?
-
counterstrike 1.6
damn it why am I compiling the list lol

What about Ground Control II? Rise Of Nations? Are these good games? I'm really after a great shooter. I'll be downloading CS:S when my laptop arrives.
-
Vietcong 2?
You should be able to find loads of old classics at that price. Swat 3, Far Cry, Project IGI 2, Allied Assault, Soldier of Fortune 2, etc.
Oh and - one of personal favourite games of all time, and only costs 5 euro new here, so about 3 pounds - Kingpin, Life of Crime. Just wow. Coolest FPS ever...(apart from postal 2)
Looks pretty dated now but trust me you'll love it, filled with OTT violence, vulgarity and general filth
-
Will it run on Vista? Is it better than the first Vietcong?
-
Vietcong 2 you're talking about I assume? I'm not sure. I'll install it tonight or tomorrow, if you can wait that long and find out. Just googling Vietcong 2 and Vista doesn't bring up anything but the original games problems.
As for the game itself, it's OK. Not as atmospheric as the first games, overall, the SP campaign is not as good. But still OK. Very difficult. The multiplayer also isn't quite as good, but - the LAN co-op is absolutely superb with a few players. We used to have several man LANS, you start off as a group with different classes and go off to elimate about 100 Vietcong on the given maps. ..so much fun. -
Sweet! Can you do that on MP?
-
Vietcong had terrible AI. TERRIBLE. Also, I am Vietnamese, so I played it to get a better feel of the war, if that makes any sense. The game was alright overall.
-
Ok thanks. What FPS for £5 or less, come on guys...
