I have an older computer and i really want to play games on it. For some reason I can't play games on it that I think should run these games.
    Uh my specs are...

CPU - Celeron 3.2 ghz with 448mb of RAM

NO graphics card, just the one it came with. ATI Radeon 200 series.

Is there a way to optimize my configurations or can I download software that will let me play games smoother on my pc? I use Windows Xp.

I'm pretty sure I should be able to run Torchlight flawlessly, but everytime I try to play its extremely choppy. ( I put it on the lowest setting and turned off everything i.e shadows, lighting, detail etc.) For some reason I can't even run FATE on high details. I have to run it at lowest resolution and details.

Your expectations are WAY too high, you definitely will not be able to run Torchlight anywhere near flawlessly. You should check out the original Starcraft and Warcraft II games, they fit your computer's power.

Medieval Total War (I) might work, if you're into that kind of game... I kept my old Athlon with an Nvidia ? 440MX for some time just to play that game.

Is this a desktop or a laptop you're talking about? Either way, don't expect anything out of it in terms of gaming. Those old Celerons, even when they were new, were pretty terrible processors.

I did not read your whole post. But search for GameBooster or something like that. It is a small app that disables your backgrounds processes if your CPU is too weak, this can help :)

    IGP 200 or xpress 200?
if it's IGP you won't even play UT2003 on it

this are the kind of games you can play on that hardware
you should consider buying a new system, preferably a PC if your low on budget

Whoa, that's a pretty low spec PC. I actually just put one together with an Athlon 64 (single core) 3200+, 1GB RAM, and onboard Radeon X200, and it wasn't horrible but wouldn't expect it to play much as far as games. I'm throwing in an HD 4350 just to get it to be able to play older games for my kids to beat on. I just want it to play the Lego games.

However, Torchlight is supposed to be netbook friendly. I believe there's an option in the game settings for "netbook". Try using that option. I think what's really holding it back is the amount of RAM. I'm assuming 448MB is because 64MB is dedicated to the graphics, so you have 512MB in total. If you can get 1GB RAM total, you'd be in good shape. Assuming your machine is AGP, any cheap AGP you get will be better than the onboard X200.

So in other words 1GB RAM (2x512MB) about $40 + $40 video card = $80 upgrade. This would probably let you play the older and less demanding games decently.

It's your decision, but your best bet would be a new machine. Anything you buy now would be worlds better than what you have even with integrated Intel 4500MHD graphics. No software will really help much if at all.

Thanks for the replies guys! Nearly fell out of my chair reading the replies. Lol it is a terrible terrible old pc. I just bought the Baldurs Gate 4 in 1 Collection so I hope it can run flawlessly. I tried Gamebooster and I think it helps a little bit.

Yeah I know my PC is really old, but there are some surprisingly fun games I can still play on it.

Freedom Force 1 and Freedom Force vs The Third Reich
    Planescape Torment
No One Lives Forever 1 and 2
    Max Payne 1 and 2

Thanks for your help guys... I just really wanted to play Torchlight lol on this pc.

Torchlight should be able to run fluently at the lowest settings lol, there's even a Netbook Mode setting you can set in the options..

Think about it, if an Atom based, Intel GMA 950ish netbook can run Torchlight fluently.. your Celeron should have no problems with it lol....
