Which is a better buy? and why?

What are you looking for in the game? The Orange Box is a big compilation from Valve including the original HL2, its episodes and spin-off games based on the engine. COD4 is a squad based FPS so they are two different sub-genres within the FPS umbrella.
The forerunner has reviewed both games so take a look at them and make your decision. -
It's going to depend on your preference.
My preference is to go for The Orange Box since it has the titles i want. Yep, my liking for the games inside. -
I got cod4 and I'm going to buy the orange box
The orange box is really cool: Actually you got more then 1 game (you will have a lot of fun with it, i think) -
I love them both, I played Portal a ton when I got it, and have played TF2 like...16 hours, but in the short time I've had CoD4 I've amounted about 20 hours of gameplay just from LANning. But again, it's up to you...however, I would recommend to eventually get both.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah both are great games and its a tough call. I had to have the orange box because of the episodes but if your not (for some freak reason) a half life fan the game eventually becomes tf2 vs cod4. Portal is great and all but its a short lived experience.

I just upgraded my GPU & RAM so I wanna test it out.
I don't know man, I've played way too many COH singleplayer games, so I'm a bit tired of that. But also, I didn't like the first few half-life games (felt like a horror game to me, I don't dig that). I'll just read some reviews, pick one, and get the other later! -
For the value, I would recommend Orange Box. However, both titles are great.

You should definitely not miss either of these titles.
I play both tf2 and cod4 online. I think they are both different enough that you won't feel like you're playing the same game whenever you're online. both offer great campaign/single player modes and both are just must haves!! get both! -
I was in the same situation as the OP. In the end i brought COD4 even though TF2 would play better on my laptop. I was gifted HL2 and HL2 episode 1 and to be hinest i wasnt that impressed. It felt more like a chore than anything, but COD4 has just blown me away. The Multiplayer is awesome and the singleplayer is very good but short.

As much as I like COD4, I would buy the orange box over it if I didn't already own most of the games in it. Half Life 2 is a classic, and both episodes are pretty good. I haven't tried portal or TF2 put apparently they are awesome. 5 games in one is an amazing deal.

i can never get enough of alyx from half-life.
i had an incident where alyx & freeman was in a dark environment, with tension running high, the flashlight suddenly ran out of power, and i suddenly heard heavy breathing which sounds like a combined is nearby. as i fumble to switch on the recharged flashlight, alyx was giggling and saying, "gotcha!"
forget the bouncing bazookas on lara croft. alyx has the personality to beat any digital bimbos. -
Call of duty 4 is amazing. But OB has 5 incredible games in one package. I love portal simply because of the concept, and the hilarious song at the end. I fell out of my chair laughing.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah definitely, while portal was great, its tie in to the half life universe is more important to me. The borealis and aperture science offer another twist and mystery into the already mysterious plot. I guess with aperture involved there really will be "unforeseen consequences" since after all Black Mesa was a joke.
